(5/8) Opponents exposed to propaganda videos report heightened anger and anxiety. Supporters report a stronger sense of societal belonging. These are consistent, robust findings across both experiments and both videos we tested.

🤔 Contrary to our pre-registered expectations, our results are similar regardless of whether respondents thought the government to be strong or weak. Yet, as also documented by @hhuang.bsky.social , a paradox emerged - a greater motivation to challenge the regime (5/7) 🔄

Supporting the signaling theory of hard propaganda, in particular respondents that are frequently exposed to government propaganda rated their deterrence potential as higher (4/7)

Surprisingly, the perception of hard propaganda as a sign of government strength and its deterrence function held, even in countries with high levels of instability (3/7)
