Environmental collapse will eclipse everything. We all need to step up. Web developer with a side interest in natural building. Studied politics once. Humanist. Big on Japan.
From a UK media perspective, it's finally getting silly to not admit Climate Change is happening. Right-wing deniers are instead arguing it's either not caused by humans or it's too late to do anything about it. If you've not heard of him already, may I introduce you to this gold-plated bellend.
Either the BBC is hedging on all possible types of weather, or June's a write-off.
"Artist 'not 100% happy' with her Attenborough model" Not surprised - I thought it was Sir John Curtice.
Researching the knock-on effects of climate change is fundamental to both mitigating it & communicating a better understanding. Planetary warming can seem abstract. The reality from stories & maps like this can tap into local issues that people do care about. www.ncei.noaa.gov/monitoring-c...
The effects of disappearing snow and Ice is one of the major issues we need to understand and make people aware of. @profpaulbehrens.bsky.social shared this extract from 'The Best of Times, The Worst of Times: Futures from the Frontiers of Climate Science' which relates:
Interesting building. We renovated a similar building in Nottinghamshire, England but much older - original timber frame from the 1500s. The bricks on this one were a later addition when it was converted from a barn to a cottage - we think in the 1700s.
A non-fiction suggestion - Lost Japan by Alex Kerr. Lived in Japan for a few years and was the first book I got given as a must read.
I agree but with an additional framing. Expedient populist politicians are pulling our attention away from other fundamental international issues - not least, global climate breakdown.
Interesting, local context (he's my MP). Council elections will be fuelling Jenrick's accelerated pandering to Reform voters. Reform came a close 2nd to the Tory – won here since 2001. This is an affluent, rural area – lots of farms & village-of-the-year types. Losing ground here is a new problem.
Just had the same feeling! I'd blissfully forgotten about all the low-end ads. Off-pink steering wheel cover anyone?
Not a film I'd heard of yet - thank you 👍 Not sure why, but it instantly makes me want to watch a film more when the audience and critics' ratings are out of sync with each other.
This is an odd one. I've not been on Twitter for a week - and didnt post before that - and even i'm getting new followers. All bots. Very suss
