Big Lebowski, Tombstone are favorites, but thought he was great in "Mask" with Cher www.google.com/imgres?q=mas...
Looks like something out of "A Serious Man", like we haven't learned much in past 60 years
Thanks! Btw, "Orbital" by Samantha Harvey, is a really good imagination of what it must be like to be an astronaut on the ISS (something like 16 sunrises and sunsets a day?)
Hearing "Country Road" as the US World Cup team anthem brings back some memories (we had the album when I was a kid), but these days, when I hear it I keep thinking of "Logan Lucky" and have a chuckle
Seems like what they really fear is how well immigrants have contributed to and _been welcomed by_ communities like Lewiston, ME, or Springfield, OH, which they went after because Haitian immigrants were helping save the town. bsky.app/profile/pman...
Yes, the fight we're in isn't simply democracy vs. fascism, it is multi-racial democracy vs. fascism. We all do better when we all do better, as Sen. Wellstone said, and as Heather McGhee shows in "The Sum of Us," a zero-sum, us vs them frame really hurts _everyone_ who isn't wealthy.
Orchids are such beautiful and surprisingly sturdy plants, if well cared for. Takes some regular effort, though; showing here the bi-weekly soaking my wife does to keep them going, for years. #photography #flowers #bloomscrolling
Stand on principles and your mission, with courage, but also minimize your attack surface Good discussion of fed admin attempts to intimidate foundations and nonprofits, including by threatening to remove #tax-exempt status at Western Conference on Tax-Exempt Organizations #wcteo #nonprofitsky
A view of the San Francisco Bay never gets old, from many angles. Today, looking from Berkeley toward San Francisco. (In law school too many years ago, enjoyed this daily.) #photography
Smith I think would support minimum wage increases and universal basic income, too
Feel like this chart or something like it should be on everyone’s wall. From Economic Policy Institute www.epi.org/productivity...
We need to undo this, which Reagan really greased and has snowballed since. Workers have not been sharing in the increasing wealth they have produced:
Built in the 1930s, if I recall, well before, I think, Frank Lloyd Wright‘s similar staircase along walls of an art gallery in SF, and later the Guggenheim in NYC

Thanks for sharing! Beautiful! Orvieto is a very memorable place. Beautiful, and also with long, interesting history. Founded by Etruscans, if I recall, seated at top of a hill, but has water table right under town due to limestone layer underneath it. #photography #architecture

Love this movie, and especially Sensei Sergio, played by Benicio Del Toro, who says the line quoted here
Vanderbilt chancellor has been pushing for "engagement" with the admin, IIRC. Let's see how this works out for him. Wesleyan's President Roth was right about all this, IMO. "Dialogue" rather than rejecting is doing the authoritarian's work for them. from: www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty...
Quite possible. I highly recommend Yuval Noah Harari’s book, “Nexus” about the history of information networks, and touches on the comparisons you raised to railroads/telecom, printing press and other inventions. AI threatens to really compound the dangers but it also may threaten autocracies, too.
