I will say that, if they are going to arrest people who put handmade signs up on the wall, one of the more moving gestures from the original removal in January was when people left flowers next to the engraved names. And that strikes me as harder to construe as “vandalism.”

One of the most dissonant churches in the area is the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge. Over-the-top 20th century neo-gothic church right on the historic battleground, dripping with militant nationalism. Mind boggling.
