The People Mover Who Was Promised

Into rail, stats, economics, basketball, dogs, YIMBYISM and normcore (no lightcone) EA. Sometimes wrong, always chugging along.
Ebikes are good for getting people especially delivery workers out of polluting, pedestrian killing cars and should not be banned. The ban is only on ebikes that travel over 25 mph, so it actually seems like a reasonable rule to me, because it specifically isn't a ban on e-bikes.
Been around urban and suburban Honey Locust trees so much in my life I never realized the wild ones have thorns. Also they are native only to the midwest but somehow the oldest individual is in Slovakia?
Do our pets hang out because they like each other or as it's the solution to the Hotelling problem?
This one Texas zoo is going to turn the US into the African savannah by losing all of their animals. www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/t...
What kind of Chicago hater created this chart? The Sears tower is taller than the Empire State Building whether you measure to the top of occupied floors or to the top of the antenna.
This kind of self flagellation needs to die in woke 2.0. Trump is not a punishment that we deserve, he is just an evil that needs to be defeated.
I have had this vision in the past and now people on Reddit are also having it. www.reddit.com/r/prospecthe...
I am not a historian, but I find this pretty convincing for the history of religions argument. There were a lot of dates proposed for the possible birth of Jesus, and it seems clear that December 25th was selected among these because of its preexisting status penelope.uchicago.edu/encyclopaedi...
No the evidence that Christmas was placed on the winter solstice to replace a holiday for Sol Invictus is much stronger. Unlike with Easter there are no dates in the Bible suggesting that Christmas was when Jesus was born, and many protestant groups have long spurned Christmas for this reason.
Was with you on vibeflation two years ago, but if you look at the Fed's inflation nowcast www.clevelandfed.org/indicators-a..., the current situation is in fact quite bad and Trump's fault. The post Covid inflation was also quite bad (though over before the 2024 election) and largely Trump's fault.
This quote that everyone is talking about today is from 2018. Nobody talking about this really knows what Andy Weir's actual politics are, and neither do I.
The big drops in support for Israel came in 2025 and 2026 as ISF war crimes continued and Oct 7 war crimes receded into the background, not with the protests in late 2023 and 2024. There was in fact a drop in support for Palestine in 2024, probably mostly due to Oct 7 but also probably due in part
From Claude "Il Doge Woke, Chief Equity Officer of the Most Serene Republic, bearing his HR compliance clipboard and a freshly sealed decree on inclusive language in the gondolier guild. ...his dual nature — both ancient magistrate and internet icon, both sovereign and sensitivity trainer."
I don't know what the right call will be here, but Trump will freak out so much if the Fed has to raise rates in a week because of his tragic and unnecessary war.
It is kind of cool that Claude is able to try and plan around Anthropic server errors.
Here in the settings, extra billing is a secret power.
I so badly want my pets Merkel and Waffles to do this.
It sounds like she disagrees heavily with her dad's previous coaching style, but also that they still have a good relationship and a lot of mutual love. There shouldn't be a need to mention the overparenting someone did in the past just because someone else is www.forbes.com/sites/conorm...
G, Elliott Morris creating a false choice between two of the electorally worst candidates for the 2028 general election, Newsom and AOC, when a number of other candidates seem more likely to win the primary.
AOC and Newsom also look worse in the actual yougov report. Did they just pull the numbers from the wrong survey or are they reporting numbers with different weighting?
This just came up on my feed. Not taking a side in this but it is just very funny.
