And a final note for #portfolioday - I am a self-publisher, and I make books, toys, games, art and more! I'd love to help you out with your next self-publishing adventure too - please reach out and let's chat!
More notes for #portfolioday, as I have been lucky to get to illustrate alongside my game dev career, and I've had a great time working with folks like @worldchamp.bsky.social, @pelgranepress.bsky.social, @chaosium.bsky.social and @infloresce.com on books, games, events and more!
Continuing my #portfolioday post - as a visual development / concept artist, I have worked on characters, creatures, environments, procedural kits, puzzles, and level design, for folks like @ko-op.com, @pillowfight.io and @peculiarpath.com. I love translating research into stylized ideas!
To expand a bit for #portfolioday: I have experience art directing videogames and tabletop RPGs - you've seen my work in @astronomics.bsky.social, @unwrittenearths.bsky.social's Swords Without Master, and @bloomdigital.bsky.social's Disney Villains' Cursed Café! I love to plan, scheme and schedule.
Also! This Sunday (weather permitting!) you can find me outside of the Danforth Arts Market, hawking my wares and making some paintings! Swing by and catch up if you get the chance!
love seeing these! I'm on the same path, and the intro macro gear is extremely fun and also much trickier to use it turns out
study in soft pastel, from a pexels ref photo, on watercolour paper coated thinly with pastel ground; not the most grippy for sure, but definitely functional!
Soft pastel landscape from Mistaken Point, Newfoundland, one of the most magical adventures I've ever been on. Final and an earlier WIP stage:
Painted a tribute to one of my fav little neighbourhood haunts in Toronto:
My third soft pastel surface test really is the clear winner - canson sand texture paper with golden pastel ground on top. Very big visible texture but holy cow it holds pigment.
some days you think, ah, I just need to do a little study to move my fingers, and then you sit down and hours disappear
We've been taking Bean to run at the off-leash park really early to beat the heat, he is in love with the filthy old tennis ball that lives there.
They dungeons are: - Keep on the Shining Isle (tempting apples, interdimensional mysteries, an isolationist colony gone wrong) - The Corruption of Pelursk (a haunted hex crawl on an island that hates you) - The Ghost Houses of Phylinecra (the goddess loves you all, so much) have you played one?
These are playmaps, made as cozy blankets, and they come very highly reviewed from the kids in my life:
It took some work, but I have three magical things available now for the first time in a LONG time: store.sorcererscatalogue.shop
We have already covered some very important subjects, and I promise you there's much more to come!
There's fantasy comics and stories, of course: stories.portablecity.net/stories/comi...
Did you know I make webcomics? And write fiction? And have a website just for those things in particular? Full of free stories to read? And Conan is there? stories.portablecity.net
I've been doing life drawing as part of my hand recovery for several years now, and the group I go to will do long poses every couple of months, so for the last one I was able to make I brought my good gouache paints and a nice sheet of arches paper and spent the time on a zoomed in portrait:
If you'd like me to bring this kind of illustration work to a project of yours, you can learn more about what I do and how to contact me at my newly refreshed illustration portfolio here: www.portablecity.net/illustration/
And that's my final eidolon that I painted for @epidiah.bsky.social's Swords Without Master! If you'd like to see the full folio, I've written a little on my blog about them, and included this sneak peek into the thumbnails that started them all! See them here: www.portablecity.net/trials-of-th...
And here is the scanned final! There's a few touches added with neocolor ii crayons at the end to help the layers pop, and as always the scanner kind of dulls a few of the colours, so a certain amount of value and colour tweaking was needed, but all in all I am really, really happy with this piece!
got a lot of painting done! shoutout to my lovely table neighbour and her beautiful antiques, and all the lovely Danforth Arts Market staff, and everyone who stopped and chatted about art with me!
I'm here at the Danforth Arts Market with original art and live painting! come say hi, I'll be here till 5:30 or so!
my best guess is he's a husky heeler, or some variant thereof, and as evidence i will provide for you his four daily walks, tendency to alarm-howl, ability to leap tall furniture in a single bound, and habit of falling asleep in this position:
Very nearly done the painting here! At this stage I'm checking for any areas that are challenging to read, where i could push contrast, and trying to be sure that the narrative and spacial layout land the way i hoped. All tweaks from here on out will be pretty tiny, but they still take time!
