Great job by the undergrads in our lab with their poster presentations today at the UW Undergrad Research Symposium. Bella Andre presented her work using thermal imagery to study pinniped ecology. Brian Lam presented his work using machine learning & drone imagery to measure coastal biodiversity.

Funny enough UNLV used to have a shark mascot on the sidelines during their heydays in the 80’s & 90’s even though the team name is the Rebels. If I recall correctly the head coach’s nickname was Tark the Shark.

One of the cool ways that the Ocean Sciences Meeting solved a space limitation issue has been through the use of “silent” talk sessions where talks are broadcast through wireless headphones. This let the organizers set up 7 talk stages in one of the exhibit halls.
