One day a week, the 13yo goes to alternative provision in an outdoor/farm setting. Today he helped a chick hatch from an egg. Then, as the last day of the school year, the kids had inflatables to play on and a bucket of KFC delivered for lunch. He had so much fun he's gone hoarse with shouting!

One of my favourite hacks for a midweek meal. It's a simple pasta with tomato sauce (you could buy a jar of sauce if you wanted, but it's so quick and easy to make). You then just top it with half a ball of cool burrata & basil leaves to turn it into a luxury treat. #FoodSky #Foodie #ItalianFood

Miso Chipotle Prawn Yaki Udon Mix 2tbsp red miso, 2tbsp runny honey, 1tbsp rice wine vinegar, 1tsp chipotle paste. Stir-fry prawns, 2 min Add halved sugar snaps, chopped spring onion, 2 min Add cooked udon noodles and miso paste-mix, 2 min Serve
Finally finished watching Tip Toe on Channel 4. It's vital, brilliant, and disturbing television. An absolute must-watch from Russell T Davies that sounds the alarm about where this country could be headed.
As if the abandoned WWII air-raid shelters at Skipwith Common weren't creepy enough, today we found a large grass snake(?) in one of them! Of course this was the total highlight for the 13yo, making an average saturday afternoon trip truly memorable! @yorkswildlife.bsky.social

I live within a mile of York City Centre, but have a small allotment just 5 minutes walk from my house up a secret wooded track, and can bring fresh produce straight back home to dream up new recipes. It's quite a bit of work to keep it up, but a genuine privilege, and unexpected part of city life.
Hackfall Woods Cool and chill under the trees, mysterious follies to explore including one that was painted by Turner, plenty of running water, and even a sandy riverside beach for lunch. One of our favourite sunny day escapes.

Barbecued Marinaded Cheap Steak / Harissa Grilled Asparagus / Nasturtium, Radish & Mint Salad (Served with grilled flatbreads) This is great for cheap steak on a sunny day - these were 'medallion steaks' (whatever that is exactly) - two for £4.80 from Tesco.
(Un?)Popular Opinion Mandatory or 'optional' service charges should be illegal. Tipping should be socially unacceptable. Restaurants should: 1. Pay staff a living wage or more, 2. Reward excellent or loyal staff 3. Advertise food & drink at the prices customers actually have to pay.
