Faculty in higher ed under constant surveillance RE waste and 'productivity' Meanwhile federal government spending half a billion (>150 NIH grants, or 750yrs of funding for basic science) to light robots on fire... www.propublica.org/article/gene...
NIH Reviewer Integrity training acknowledging that a cat visitor to the (virtual) study section meeting is ok! 🐈
What a great week of science! Got to share really cool new #harleylab regenerative medicine, cancer, and endometriosis work. Thank you UNSW Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute & U. Sydney. Until next time, Sydney
Are you around #UNSW Sydney today? Working broadly in the area of women's health? Come check out this program with the the Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute. Excited to be part of it!
Huge congrats today to #harleylab members Hannah Theriault, Genesis Rios-Adorno, and Brittany Payan on their PhD hooding today. These 3 have been superstars. They reinvigorated research programs in endometrioma, musculoskeletal tissue regeneration, & glioblastoma. Fantastic mentors and people. 🎉
Somehow, our admin looked at this situation in the light of a new day and decided, you know what, let's just tell faculty they have no autonomy on how they deliver instruction & complete the semester. And let's also tell department leaders it is their job to police compliance. JFC
Work trip take out dinner. Anyone else sometimes order just enough food that you ask the person behind the bar for two sets of utensils so that maybe they don't judge you quite so much? Or is that just me?
Who could have imagined turning over campus instructional infrastructure to a private equity backed for-profit firm would have a downside? Not like this is the end of the semester with students studying for exams that start tomorrow. And all their course materials are inaccessible. 🤡
It was wonderful to visit UNM Dep of Chemical and Biological Engineering @ U New Mexico today to show off some of the great #harleylab work. Thanks to my host, Olivia Lanier, and lots of other colleagues (incl Darryl Dickerson) for spending the day!
Happy college decision day to those who celebrate! Really proud our OG-internet 'kiddo' (Sam) is going to CAMB @northeasternu.bsky.social next year for the Architectural studies program. He's creative and kind. Watch out Boston!
What a treat to hang out with OG #harleylab members Steven and Bhushan. Back in town for the Illinois Marathon weekend. This whole adventure started when I recruited these two (plus Sunny Choi) to my lab 18 years ago... My heart is full
🚨 Great event this afternoon hosted by Illinois Campus Faculty Association. A great chance for tenure-stream faculty at Illinois to think collectively about how we engage in scholarship and teaching at this moment.
Big News. Today the Cancer Center at Illinois becomes the 8th NCI Designated Basic Cancer Center. www.cancer.gov/research/inf...
Northeast college tour this weekend. MIT (Yannas Lecture). Northeastern (kiddo option 1). And Pratt (kiddo option 2). Gorgeous weather and great times
Back for the day to honor a mentor and legend. Yannas Lecture in Bioengineering MIT MechE, 3-270, 3:30p
Happy Trans day of visibility! 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️ I'm so happy to share this life with you. www.instagram.com/p/DWjVdKQDsb...
