I was too caught up in listening to our keynote yesterday that I didn't even post about it! Pamela Smith gave us a thought-provoking paper on thinking through human-material interactions: crafts, bodies, and the environment in the Preindustrial world #histmed #histstm

In session three, we are hearing about the Bioarchaeology of Community Care! We open with Serena Viva who is discussing what bioarchaelogical evidence has told us about health, disease patterns, and occupational stress in medieval mining communities

Next up we have Shireen Hamza (doing very well at adapting to our tech problems!) talking to us about medieval imperatives to heat and cool the body in relation to waterside spaces in medieval Gujarat.

Session Two is on ‘Healthscaping with Air and Water’. We start with Rose Byfleet discussing air and multi-sensory pleasure in Medici gardens in the pursuit of health

And last for this session, we have Baihui Duan, discussing health conditions of naval forces from China, Korea, and Japan and how climate and epidemic disease affected military populations

Second up we have Megan Cassidy-Welch (@megancw.bsky.social) with some beautiful manuscript images and discussing the promotion of health and preventative health measures of 13th c. pilgrims and crusaders
