It's easy to forget the little inconspicuous ladybirds as well. This guy was another life tick for me at the weekend. Scymnus suturalis. They hang out in conifers too eating small aphids

Walking on a wood ants nest with total impunity and lack of fear unlike almost anything with a nervous system

It's hot so let's admire the beautiful, fascinating Scarce 7 Spot ladybird which I saw in Dorset for the first time at the weekend. These ladybirds have an association with wood ants (formica rufa) and can walk over a wood ants nest no fucks given

My 16 spot emerged in the night while I'm on holiday in Dorset.

This guy/gal/NB pal has lost his tail entirely and is trying to climb up a vertical pond edge. There's more accessible places where he can get out but clearly wants a challenge
