Looking back at the KH2 ending there's this scene of Sora and Riku leaving the shores of the RoD and entering the RoL. They appear as shooting stars, similar or even exact to the ones we see in the opening. I think the 9 we see are referring to different characters falling throughout the games.
The opening ends with a top down view of Sora standing on Snow White's heart station. Before I sum up my overall thoughts on the opening, let's discuss the doves, specifically why show the darkness turning into them? It could be due to the heart station belonging to Snow, as she's known to be able
The light spreads at his feet peeling away the darkness, which turns into a bunch of white doves. Sora watches them fly off into the dark, the ground beneath him now revealing a stained glass pillar in the likeness of Snow White.
Suddenly he's back in the water, shooting downwards, air bubbles forming around him again. His body begins to right itself, and his eyes open once more, as his feet touch ground. He looks around in the darkness and takes a small step. A flash of greenish light engulfs him...well isn't that familiar.
Sora's eyes close and he plummets down almost appearing to hit the sun. I have no concrete thoughts on this image, I just find it visually intriguing.
Sora reaches his hand out at Kairi who is now standing above him and on the water/skys surface? She reaches back but the water ripples and she disappears as well.
The sleeping Sora barrels towards the awake Sora on the beach. We zoom on awake Sora's face and behind him we can see the sky that he appears to be falling through himself. Is he experiencing what the sleeping Sora is in the same moment? Or was it a perspective trick and he was always falling?
Sora reunites with Kairi but their attention is drawn up at the sky. Another Sora is falling surrounded by what looks to be falling stars. When I first saw this scene I thought the stars might be related to the 7 lights/13 darkness's but there's only 9. Counting both Sora and Kairi that's only 12
This part of the opening always makes me think of the KH2 ending. I'm fact I'm sure it's an intentional parallel. Theres this as well
