I think I’m liking this more as — instead of the primary focus being the framework an oppressor is trapped in — it references indigenous stories of liberation and hope in the face of oppressive systems. Joy is an act of rebellion, and existential dread / “the dark” is ALSO an illusion.
One’s thesis is that ambition and the grasping for knowledge and power beget suffering. we’re all inevitably going to return to the dark. the other’s resolution is that in spite of it all we deserve to dance and have a little treat and be liberated from our oppressors.
Okay so one thing I love about one piece is that it uses the same storytelling method Miyazaki uses where there’s a fuck ton of comparative mythology and the conclusion that western ideology took over large chunks of the world.
