I left a comfy UX/Eng job at Google to build Quiche Browser and an indie brand around my love for the Web, minimalism, and questionable naming. 📍🇫🇷🇪🇺🛫🗼🇯🇵
It's my favorite time of the year: dropping everything to prepare new features for the next iOS version, which also means redesigning parts of Quiche Browser settings. I've been doing that for a while now and I love the process, but the dread of adding unnecessary complexity is always there. #iOS27
"How dare you charge for your work which I haven't even tried? One star!"
By popular demand, plenty of new actions are now available when long-pressing the address bar in Quiche Browser. Also, the nightmare is finally over: the app no longer opens the Google app when returning to a tab with search results 🎊
Starting today, Quiche Browser disables AI overviews in search results by default, out of the box. Compare how much space and time they waste. I love the web too much to let that nonsense bury links to real websites made by humans. Why no other browser does that is beyond me.
New feature coming to Quiche Browser tomorrow. It is: • Search related • Ultra simple • Radical • A shame no other browser offers it. Free Quiche ᴘʟᴜꜱ code to whoever guesses it first!
I almost got scammed by your impersonator last year. You owe me a feature now 😅
It's also proof that doing one or two things well beats being average everywhere, and that quality-of-life features outlast chasing AI fads. If this also resonates with you, please join and make Quiche ᴘʟᴜꜱ a 1,000+ party!
NEW QUICHE BROWSER UPDATE: You can finally swipe up on the toolbar to view all tabs! It's fast and also one less button to keep in your exquisitely minimal toolbar.
Another sneak peek at Quiche Browser's swipe gestures, this time at actual speed. As said previously, fluid and responsive are my main goals. You can do multiple quick swipes in succession without waiting for the previous animation to finish, and without any stuttering.
Quiche Browser's upcoming gestures feel so alive, you can open a tab, catch it mid-flight, and swipe it away before it's even finished opening! Try the same in Chrome: toolbar buttons don't even work until the opening animation has finished 🫠
Quiche Browser's upcoming gestures are fast, fluid, and responsive. Been using them for my own browsing for two weeks now 🎉 Also, tabs no longer stupidly slide from the bottom of the screen! They're properly connected to the Tab Overview, even in List view. Good riddance to that cute amateur vibe.
How do you tell if an iOS browser has responsive gestures? You should be able to open the list of tabs with a flick, while at the same time swipe-closing the tab you were just reading. Today, only Safari can pull this off, and Quiche Browser should soon🤞 (Animations slowed down for clarity.)
Love the way web pages scroll all the way to the top of the screen in Safari on iOS 26? But totally despise Liquid Glass? Quiche Browser's full screen browsing is now available in Classic theme! Maximum screen real estate for reading, all without floating glass stuff clashing with the web page.
A slow motion sneak peek of what's (finally) coming to Quiche Browser: • Swipe up to see all tabs. • Slide on the toolbar to move between tabs. • Tabs move, grow, and shrink in an organic way. • The interface always responds to taps and gestures, even during transitions.
Great news for me as an indie browser maker: Safari is rumored to be rebuilt around AI features in iOS 27! If even Apple joins the Browser AI-Enshittification League, I can’t think of a better opportunity for Quiche Browser to stand out as the radically minimalist/no-nonsense alternative to Safari.
Customizable gestures in Quiche Browser are my main focus right now. They’ll let you replace what your most important buttons do and, if you’re into hardcore minimalism like me, keep only the page’s information for calmer, more immersive reading. #buildinpublic #ios
What a lovely surprise to discover my little indie web browser so tastefully featured on a YouTube channel about minimalism and aesthetics in tech. (Both very much my thing, and what I try to put into Quiche Browser.) #buildinpublic #browser #ios
“Insane but actually really lovely” could be a fitting description of my app, and probably of the whole idea of trying to build a sustainable business around a web browser with a silly name. (Thanks for the SO @davidpierce.xyz 🙏)
Swipe-to-close gestures now available in Quiche Browser! I’ve already received some positive feedback so hopefully they feel so good you’ll open 100 random tabs just for the fun of swipe-closing them. (I just did.) #buildinpublic #browser #ios
Quiche Browser vs. Chrome vs. Edge vs. Firefox: Only Quiche Browser doesn’t throw a full-screen white flash in your face when opening a web page from another app. #buildinpublic #browser #ios
Swipe-to-delete gestures are finally coming to Quiche Browser 🎉 Still more tweaking to do around the design, animation, and timing until everything feels right. I’m pretty obsessive about these details, but shipping great gestures is my big goal this year! #ios #indiedev #buildinpublic #iosdev
Great read: a plea to app developers in favor of customizable UI in software, using Quiche Browser as an example 🌞 • Why customization doesn’t add more complexity. • Why it’s not an excuse for not providing good defaults. • Why it matters even more since iOS 26. havn.blog/2026/01/12/s...
Wow thanks so much for the shout out! In all honesty the blocker still has lots of room for progress, but I’m really glad it’s been working decently for the websites you visit. Also, thank you for reporting that missing icon issue earlier!
I’m dead set on the direction for Quiche Browser in 2026: Doubling down on the qualities people keep highlighting in App Store reviews, the ones that set it apart in a world full of browsers that all look the same. Minimalism, heart, polish, lightness. This feels like the only way forward.
Today’s Quiche Browser update finally fixes the crash when using Find on Page in the Classic theme. With the last critical iOS 26 issue now out of the way, I can finally move on to the next big feature. It’s a significant effort to ship it the way I imagine it, so thanks for your patience 🙇♂️
Quiche Browser’s default favorites reflect the web I like: good design, good writing, good content. And people seem to notice ❤︎ In other browsers, default favorites are companies paying to be included (Amazon, Expedia...), or garbage like Facebook or X. I can’t think of a worse first impression.
That’s why favorites need to sit slightly lower than search suggestions, and why Comfort Mode lets you position both independently, so they all stay easy to reach one-handed.
My indie iOS browser just got featured in a print magazine for the first time! If you’re in the UK, you might want to grab the latest issue of MacFormat, in case it becomes a collector item when I get world famous. #buildinpublic #browser #ios
