When I interviewed Ian Hunter for issue 3, he told me he didn't record "Drive-In Saturday" because Tony Defries said Bowie didn't want him to. Defries also told Bowie that Ian didn't want to record it! Looks like Defries didn't want it to happen! What's your biggest Bowie surprise? #DavidBowie
49 years since the release of Low. Bowie began to look to Europe rather than America for inspiration (although one might argue that that began with Station to Station). For many, this was his magnum opus. Writer's block became an art form! DAM trio band was all together. Eno and Visconti. Perfect!
I'm hearing that the Bowie exhibition at the V&A East Storehouse is currently closed (at least the displays are) for "unplanned maintenance". Unconfirmed word is there's a problem with the roof.
Today would have been the 80th birthday of the great and much missed Mick Ronson. This 1980 photo, by Madeline Bocaro, appeared by kind permission in my book.

What a brilliant night yesterday. Nicholas Pegg's talk, David Bowie, Lindsay Kemp and the birth of Ziggy Stardust was equal parts fascinating, insightful and hilarious! And it was fabulous to catch up with the brilliant Kevin Cann, too.

Bowie + Mick Ronson or Bowie + Brian Eno Ronno helped shape the rise of Bowie’s rise. Eno helped Bowie break the rulebook and reinvent himself - again! My book was largely about Bowie's partnerships. Which (of these) partnerships do you think brought out the very best in Bowie?
