Early WIPWednesday #Quiltsky! Finished piecing August's block for my parents' wall. Need to embroider seagulls, add a backing, and minor quilting. Should easily be done in time for my kids to deliver on Friday.

A roughly 14x14inch foundation paper pieced quilt square depicting a red and blue striped light house on a rocky shore near a sandy beach with 3 sailboats out on the water. There is a dark blue fabric border around the whole square.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Baby quilt is progressing. Need to finish quilting and then bind it. Hoping to mail it Saturday, but might have to push it out another week.

A baby quilt in progress. There is a giant heart in the middle of the quilt made of squares and a few triangles in rainbow colors. Background is light yellow fabric with green leaves. Quilting is not finished. There are some scattered safety pins on the quilt along with random seam thread ends that need to be buried. Edges are still raw and some batting is visible.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Had a request for a quick baby quilt so I'm cutting 5inch squares* for a rainbow heart. Still going through my stash; decided to just cut from any appropriate fabric and I'll choose from there. *Need to be ironed and cut to size&shape.

40+ pieces of fabric cut into roughly 5 inch squares. Fabric is arranged in a diamond shape in a rainbow gradient sitting on top of a cutting rotary cutting mat and ruler. Fabric needs to be ironed and then trimmed into proper squares. There is a stack of fabric visible at the top of the picture and some dark blue squares to the side.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Trying to finish this block by the weekend. Since this is probably my only US 250th project, I ended up writing on the back for posterity. In a hurry, changed direction midway, it's a mess.

FPP quilt block measuring approx 14in x 14in. There is a US flag. The blue field on the flag has 13 stars embroidered in a circle around 1776 2026. There is a black crow with an embroidered eye atop a brown picnic basket with a green checked blanket inside and embroidered green fringe. And there is a slice of watermelon with embroidered seeds and a jar of lemonade with an embroidered label spelling out leonade. The quilt block has a dark blue frame with weathered stars on it. Quilt block is from "A Year of Paper Piecing: 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs" by Beverly A Maxvill. The jar of lemonade was supposed to be a jar of "Grandma's Hot Dog Relish." I also modified the flag as it only had 11 stripes. Had to modify the blue field accordingly.

Dark blue fabric with weathered stars in staggered rows like they are on the US flag. Words are embroidered in white floss, a bit challenging to read. Letters are all capitalized and uneven.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! My July block is coming along nicely. Changed the jar of "Grandma's Hot Dog Relish" to lemonade. DH suggested moonshine. Hah! My Mom doesn't drink, so maybe when I get this back, I'll change the label. Planning to embroider 1776-2026 on the flag.

Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) uh, pieces ready to be joined together. There is a US flag in 4 pieces in the upper left. A black crow in several pieces in the upper right. Pieces of a yellow jar of lemonade next to a slice of watermelon in the lower left. And pieces of a brown picnic basket with green checked picnic blanket in the lower right. When this block is put together, it will be approximately 12 in x 12 in. Pattern is the July block in "A Year of Paper Piecing: 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs" by Beverly A Maxvill.

#Quiltsky Forgot my WIP Wednesday post yesterday. Quilt block for my parents' assisted living door is pieced. I did a better job with the corner blocks this time. Hope to mail it this weekend & pick up Harriet Powers stamps. This is May's block. I'm skipping ahead to July's block next.

Picnic blanket quilt. I went with white embroidery, making it hard to see on the front. Something, something, lack of confidence in my stitches, so it's hard to see my mistakes. Picnickers have to hunt for the ant. Except the quilt wasn't finished in the last picture so the ant isn't there yet.

Top of the quilt is a blue fabric with white daisies on it, along with green-striped fabric, bound in green fabric. The underside of the quilt is royal blue canvas. It is easier to see the white hearts embroidered in the squares on the backside. Some hearts face left, some right, some up, and some down. There are several squares without hearts.

WIPWednesday #Quiltsky! My FPP basket of tulips quilt block is coming along nicely. Made some mistakes & decided to just add more bits of fabric rather than rip them out. Feel like I'm understanding the process more now.

FPP fabric covered paper pieces laid out on a cutting mat ready to be joined together for a complete block. There are 3 bright pink tulips and 3 dark purple tulips with various green leaves and stems, all sprouting from a brown basket on a cream background. Pattern by Beverly A. Maxvill in "A Year of Paper Piecing: 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs" for the month of May.

I just know you wanted to see this. 😂 Took me a bit to find a picture and then I needed to edit the background.

An old Singer sewing machine. Unlike many sewing machines of this era (no, I don't know how old it is, I just know it's older than me!), this one is painted mostly in bright orange with round wheel at the end being painted bright purple, although it looks more blue in the picture. There is a sticker above in orange, purple, and white that says "TIGERS" with a little tiger paw. There is a sticker on the table of the sewing machine that is orange and white of a larger tiger paw. Clemson colors for a Clemson graduate.

WIPWednesday #Quiltsky! I'm jumping ahead to May's block for my parents' assisted living door. Hopefully I can get ahead on these blocks and not feel pressured to get the next one done. This FPP block will eventually look like a basket of tulips.

The beginnings of a foundation paper piece block. A bunch of bits of paper with bits of fabric sewn on them. Lots of cream bits of fabric with some pinks and purples and browns and greens. The papers with green fabric are more covered with fabric than the papers with pink or purple or brown fabric. All strewn on a dark blue and white tablecloth.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Finished the FPP Valentine's block for my parents' assisted living apartment door. My favorite block in the series. Did the embroidery freehanded. Overall pleased with it, in spite of the extra wide M. Doing May's block next to hopefully stay ahead on these.

A quilt block to hang on my parents' assisted living apartment door. FPP paper pieced block shows a bright red heart candy box with red embroidered lace around it. White heart in the middle of the red heart box is embroidered with "Be Mine". Ends of a gold ribbon are on either side of the candy box. Candy box is lying on top of a dozen red roses (only 8 stems shown). Roses are composed of 2 darker shades of red fabric with 2 shades of green for the leaves. Each rose has a curly black question mark type shape embroidered on it to add to the opening rose look of it. Background is cream fabric, framed in green fabric that matches half of the rose stems, with yellow squares in the corners of the frame. Two of those squares are nicely in place. The other two could use some work. Will try a different technique for the next block in this series. Finished block is approx 14x14 inches squared
Pattern is February block from "A Year of Paper Piecing: 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs" by Beverly A. Maxvill, which is out of print and I found at my library. Ended up buying a used copy.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! February block is coming along nicely. Wish I had used a darker yellow for the ribbon. Still need the border and embroidery before I can put it together. Not sure if it will be done in time to mail on Saturday.

Paper pieced quilt square approx 12.5 inch sides. Red heart candy box with cream heart in the middle and yellow ribbons coming from it. Heart box is on top of the stems of a dozen red roses, with some stems visible on one side of the box and the roses on the other side. All on cream background. Pattern is February block from "A Year of Paper Piecing: 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs" by Beverly A. Maxvill, which is out of print and I found at my library.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Working on February's block for my parents' door and it is going slower than I'd like. In addition to more pieces than January's block, this block also has more embroidery. New plan is to skip March's block and sew April's and maybe I can get ahead on these?

Paper pieced pieces, fabric side up, laying on a cutting map. When sewn together, these pieces will (hopefully) appear to be a dozen red roses. The roses have 2 shades of red with 2 shades of green leaves on a cream background. They're sort of in a right angle shape. This is part of the February block of "A Year of Paper Piecing: 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs" by Beverly A. Maxvill, which is out of print and I found at my library.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Finished my FPP paper-pieced snowman block for my parents' assisted living door. Embroidery parts went okay. Probably should have used 3 strands for the snowflakes and tossed in a few more, but time was short. Should be arriving at their place any minute now.

Completed paper-pieced snowman quilt block. Snowman with black top hat, red scarf, 3 coal buttons, carrot nose, and embroidered eyes and mouth. Satin stitched eyes and French knot mouth. Two stick arms. One stick arm has a bird house hanging from it with the connecting string embroidered on. Other arm has a red bird perched on it with embroidered feet and French knot eye. That's probably 1/4 to 1/2 of the French knots I've ever made. Snow-topped bushes on either side. Blue background with a handful of embroidered snowflakes (asterisks) scattered around. Red border with yellow squares in the corners. Sides are roughly 14 inches. All ready to hang on their apartment door!

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! I needed a break from the news. Finished piecing my first FPP project. Need to remove the paper, then embroider details. Hoping to mail it Saturday for my parents' door in assisted living. Then jump on February's block, to send it before the start of the month! 🙃

A 14-inch sided square quilt block of a paper-pieced snowman. The snowman has a black top hat, carrot nose, red scarf, 3 coal buttons, and 2 stick arms. The eyes and mouth will be embroidered later. There is a bird "hovering" over one of the stick arms (legs to be embroidered later) and a birdhouse "hovering" under the other arm (waiting for a string to be embroidered, attaching it to the stick arm). Several snow covered bushes are on either side. The whole block is surrounded by a red border with yellow blocks in the corners. Pattern is from Beverly Maxvill's block of the month book "A Year of Paper Piecing 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs." This is January's "Mr. Snowman" block. I borrowed it from our library!

#WIPWednesday #Quiltsky! Pleased with my progress on my paper-pieced snowman. Question for paper piecers. Asking about "Best Paper Piecing Practices" as opposed to shortcuts. When you finish filling a paper piece section, do you sew all around the border so the edges aren't lifting off the paper?

Work-in-progress of a paper-pieced snowman. There is a black top hat with red ribbon around it. The top and middle sections of a snowman with carrot nose, red scarf, and two coal buttons. The left stick arm with a 3-story brown bird house underneath. Two sections of snow-covered green bushes. There are also 2 paper pieces barely started. One for the bottom snowball with a piece of black fabric for the coal button and a piece of white fabric for the start of the snowball. The other unfinished piece is roughly triangular shaped with a piece of orange fabric for the birdbeak on it, sewn to some blue sky fabric.

#Quiltsky Finally opened up the box with my new toy in it. I wasn't 100% sure what I was getting. 1923 Model 99 Singer sewing machine. Electric. My dad has been restoring various old Singers and this is what he picked out for me.

Read something about Charlotte being outside border patrol jurisdiction, so I went to find out approx how far it is from the ocean. Glanced at the first link to read 155 miles away. Then I looked at the map above it!

2/2 I tried making a video flipping over the pillow so you could see the Chevrolet bow-tie wrapping around it. Had problems uploading it, so you'll have to settle for stills. Anyway, here is the quilt folded into a pillow.

The Chevrolet quilt folded into a pillow. It's sitting on a white comforter. Background of the pillow is royal blue with yellow stars (asterisks) sewn in it. There is half the yellow Chevrolet bow-tie visible with the letters CHEV in blue on it. The yellow and V are on the far right of the pillow. This portion of the pillow is a separate quilt square sewn to the back of the quilt like a pocket. It is quilted.

More of the Chevrolet quilt folded into a pillow. The yellow Chevrolet bow-tie symbol continues on the back of the pillow. There is a smidge of the blue V visible on the left of the pillow followed by the rest of the letters - ROLET. Same royal blue background with yellow stars (asterisks) appliqued on it. The ROLET portion is sewn directly on the back of the quilt. All stitching on the ROLET side of the pillow is applique, so that the stitches are not visible on the front of the quilt. Sewn to match the actual quilting on the CHEV portion of the pillow.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Actually, I finished! Flew to see my parents this weekend for my Dad's birthday. Rushed to finish this because I wanted to show my Mom. Left the quilt there for my brother to pick up the next time he visits - probably Christmas. So it's still a surprise. 1/2

There are some white rectangles with images of a 1948-49 blue woody Chevy station wagon and various Chevy logos and sayings. "See the USA in your Chevrolet."

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky. Finished quilting the main quilt. Working on the pillowcase now. Can't bind until the pillowcase is done. Ripped the CHEVROLET in half. Now adding more yellow squares so I can 60deg angle the sides, plus squares for the + sign, so it will better match the logo.

Fabric square sewn together to form dark blue letters on a yellow background. Upper piece spells ROLET and lower piece spells CHEV. Extra yellow squares on the side with a few sewn together

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! I have begun quilting. Sticking with straight lines (squares eventually) 1/4 inch from the seams as I know I can do a nice job, it's a gift, and it's for my brother. At some point, I'll make a quilt I can freely experiment on, but not this one. 1/

Quilt made up of various blue squares under the walking foot of a sewing machine. A few safety pins are visible in the quilt. Some of the backing and batting is visible bunched up beyond the sewing machine.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Got my walking foot last week and tried it out. So nice! Quilt is sandwiched. On the downside, I need to trim the side edge backing so I can extend the length of it a half inch. Then I can quilt.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! I'm early today because I finished piecing this blue Chevy quilttop yesterday. 😂This will be a quillow with a more complicated pillowcase for me, so I'm not sure how long I'll be overthinking the next steps.

Hey #Quiltsky . Feels like I haven't posted for WIPWednesday in a while so I'm getting a jump on Throwback Thursday. #FirstQuilt almost 30 years ago, followed by a long gap before I began quilting again. Did not have any pictures on my phone because this was made when I had a pager. 😆

Baby quilt. Tumbling blocks pattern with red, green, yellow, and blue blocks arranged in a pyramid. Background are pastel hexagons in same colors. Green border and yellow border. Quilt is not bound. All machine sewn.

WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! Really pleased with my California state flag, even if it's not finished. It made it to a protest last week. Back to my blue Chevy quilt. 6 1/2 rows sewn together. Bad seizure interrupted; I'll get back to it tomorrow. I'm a little over a third the way on the quilt top.
