I will continue to be a broken record that says “a clean and safe downtown means pedestrians don’t die when visiting.”
I think it’s been a particularly good sunflower summer. I had some wild volunteers in my yard this year!
My favorite fact about them is that the pollen makes bees drunk enough to need a nap. I often find bees sleeping in my maypop flowers. I then get really cool close up pictures of napping bees.
Idk @betsyphillips.bsky.social but, with apologies to all the other babies, I’m pretty sure I have the cutest babies in Nashville. They were so cute that I still only see them as those adorable little nuggets, even when one is bigger than me. I’ve attached my entry for the cute baby contest.
CMA Fest road closures. From 7 am 6/4 through 7 pm 6/7: • 2nd Ave. S from Demonbreun to Commerce • Eastbound lane of 2nd Ave. S from Demonbreun to Commerce • Rep. John Lewis Way from Korean Veterans Blvd. to Demonbreun • Demonbreun from Rep. John Lewis Way to 6th Ave.
Last night ways a long night. But towards the end, I had to speak my peace about people dying downtown. Here it is, as well as a clip of the words that inspired it.
Today my baby started his first job. He’s luckier than most - all he had to do was call his uncle & ask. But I’m still happy for him. He’s the 1st one of the 4th generation to work inside these walls. Back in my day, I helped track sales in (then new) excel. This kids going to learn to cut metal.
Biked up & down 30A for the past week. Not known for being a liberal paradise yet has significant multiuse paths & bike support. Cars slowed for us & always stopped so we could cross. Started with a rented cargo ebike but had to go rent bikes for littles - they were too excited to sit shotgun.
This was such a delightful way to kick off the start of summer!
Posted this on the other socials today and curious what this crowd thinks, too. Basic question is whether the benches are worth the liability concerns. (And apologies for making everyone here watch a video, which is decidedly not the point of this site!)
Not a lot of joy these days. But our new styrofoam recycling program at the East Convenience Center brings me immense amounts of joy. I’ve been holding on to this batch just waiting for our new recycling program to start!
This one required crossing Charlotte near White Bridge, which has always been a line for me. But she really, really wanted Waffle House + Bike for our special dinner, so…
NES recently updated its tree policy. It ignores species of tree & clear cuts straight down to the ground. This isn’t scientific or based on anything but vibes. The only thing this policy is consistent with is the report’s findings that NES failed to have, execute, & communicate any sensical plan.
The library, accidentally reminding me how special they are. 94 copies in use. 801st in line.
You have until 2 to get to the South Inglewood Community Center for the Nashville Bicycle Festival. It’s inside so no rain worries! And you can do like I do and vote while you’re there!
It is going to Living Earth. Living Earth does mulch and compost. I take my weeds out to them for composting during the spring and summer when the volume gets out of hand - it’s free if it fits in my van. Pretty cool composting set up.
Said mouse really seems unimpressed with the cheese it’s and dog food we’re giving it.
I wonder if someone is going to tell these soon-to-be sad 8th grades?
Sir, I use this pen at council. Sure you could watch us, or you could just believe in yourself. (Also, yes, I need this reminder every meeting and am grateful for this gift and the gift giver for knowing I’d need this.)
This is my horse, Tahini. He’s a rescue and absolutely wonderful.
Shout out to those working hard on The Alice and Nineteen Fifty-Six at The University of Alabama. You are amazing. Your voice is worthy. Fuck the haters. Don’t let the bastards get you down.
