Looks like Scott Gilmore found a way to create the new Conservative Party he was hoping to see in 2017: just take over the Liberal Party and make it into a Progressive Conservative one. Gilmore (no relation!!!) is set to become Carney's principal secretary.

The beginning of the article reads: "Two other members of Prime Minister Mark Carney's inner circle are getting a boost as part of a staff shuffle prompted by the appointment of his principal secretary to the Senate and a deputy chief of staff departing to run for office."

Jason Kenney, a man who once bragged about his role in ensuring gay men couldn’t see their dying partners in hospices during the AIDS epidemic, is trying to tell me how to help families desperate for healthcare improvements: privatization. Lol. Lmao, even.

Jason Kenney responds to my post about him hopefully amplifying reports that Mark Carney might be open to privatizing our healthcare. Kenney wrote:

Virtually every health care system in the developed world has universal, public access, but permits various forms of private payment.
The social democracies of Scandinavia and Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Japan and South Korea, et al.
Canada is an extreme outlier in trying to maintain a rigid state monopoly that prevents innovation, driving desperate Canadians to seek care outside our country.
That's why we are in the top quartile of the OECD on health care expenses, but the bottom quartile on results, e.g. diagnostic and surgical wait times.
But the Canadian left is "horrified" by the idea of adopting aspects of systems with universal insurance that deliver better results at lower cost.
Their message to families desperate for timely care: just keep paying more, and keep waiting longer. Don't you dare step out of line and ask why the French, Swedes, Aussies, or Japanese et al can get faster care at lower cost."

This could be the start of Carney stacking the senate with people who will vote in favour of his pro-corporate reforms. The senate is one of the few places where his legislation is still slightly scrutinized. Given Carney’s other actions, it would make sense he’d want to remove that “barrier.”

Trudeau tried to move away from Senate appointments as rewards for the prime minister’s own political benefit. As Stephen Maher noted on Twitter, this appears to be a return to that pre-Trudeau era of senate seats being gifts. What does Carney get? Potentially, a byelection he can win.

Results of the 2025 federal election in Conservative MP Richard Martel’s riding show he won by 17,356 votes, followed by the Bloc Québécois with 15,857 votes and the Liberals with 15,820 votes.

Jason Kenney hopefully amplifying reports that Carney might be open to privatizing our healthcare. If this ends up having even a lick of truth — which there is no reason to believe right now — it would be horrifying for our country. Don’t even think about it, Carney. Please.

When the government claims TMX is mega profitable (Tim Hodgson keeps saying $1 billion a year), remember that we BOUGHT IT for $34 billion. So it won’t be profitable for *34 years* at this rate, and that’s if oil demand doesn’t decline! (It will!) It very likely will NEVER be profitable:

IISD writes: “The TMX pipeline is not recouping its costs. Because the tolls charged to the oil industry do not cover the full project costs, Canadian taxpayers could end up subsidizing oil shipments by between CAD 8.7 billion and CAD 18.8 billion, or up to CAD 1,255 per household, over the life of the project.”

Uhhh, this is Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s chief of staff **heavily suggesting** Alberta has a private sector proponent for its pipeline. That makes the reality of a new oil pipeline MUCH more likely. God fucking damn it.
