This is ‘Gus’, the Great blue heron this morning on dad’s beach. Gus uses this rock and a couple others to patiently wait for a meal when the tide is coming or going out. Same behavior for many years! 🪶 #AlphabetChallenge #WeekBforBehind #PNW #PugetSound
@emhonu.bsky.social @wa-fire-watch.bsky.social @suzette.bsky.social Thank you for the reposts! Please enjoy the California poppies with bee butt and the sounds of gentle Puget Sound waves lapping in the background.
Dad's little slice of heaven that I enjoy when we visit. This is Mt. Rainier this afternoon looking south from his patio.
A female Pileated Woodpecker feeding her female youngster some suet this quiet 4th July morning. Not the clearest video, trying not to disturb them with the window cracked open. 🪶 Have a safe and sane 4th everyone! #Woodpeckers #PNW
How many mealworms can a female American Robin hold in her beak? Mrs. Robinson has been partially feeding her clutches for 3 years with dried mealworms that I hydrate with water and place inside this crate. We get along fabulously and have multiple feeding routines. 🪶 #PNW #Nature #BirdsofBlueSky
@emhonu.bsky.social @oldredsubby.bsky.social Thank you for the reposts! Sun setting on tall cedar trees in our backyard this evening, hope yours is a pleasant one. ✨

@danrange.bsky.social, juvenile female Anna’s hummingbird resting on Mr. Crab* and I thank you for the reposts. 📸 * From yesterday looking out the kitchen door window.
This afternoon a solitary Potter Wasp (Ancistrocerus - don’t know which one) was looking for a tube home to lay its single egg decided our door hinge might be the right place. 🐝 First time I’ve noticed this kind of bee in the yard. #PNW #Pollinators #NotaPest
Female Pileated Woodpecker having her morning breakfast today while a Red-breasted Nuthatch waits its turn. 🪶 #WoodpeckerWednesday #PNW #Birds
Yesterday was 85 degrees, today it’s 55 degrees with periods of light rain. This large brown garden snail beauty is enjoying a leisurely stroll across our driveway. 🐌 #Escargot #Mollusk #PNW #CatchMeIfYouCan
The mountain is out! Azelea ’Everest’ has beautiful white trumpet shaped flowers with a pale green/yellow blotch. Unfortunately rain will be here shortly to start melting the flowers. ☹️ #BloomScrolling #PNW
@jonjust.bsky.social @suzette.bsky.social 🐻 Thank you for the repost! 🐻 Mr. Bear from last night:
Our early morning visitor. One bird feeder destroyed. He hung around for a while so I pulled all the feeders. Young Blackie will return over the next few days knowing easy food is in our yard. #Bears #PNW #Friday #MorningSurprise
#MothMonday On a backyard blueberry leaf, iNaturalist says this is a moth in the Ennominae family. I’ll need to wait until it turns into an adult to find out which one. #Moths #Camouflage #IsThatAPieceOfWood?
The colorful Western Tanagers arrived in our yard last week. They nest nearby and visit the yard multiple times a day. They love suet! This male Tanager waited until the female Hairy’s Woodpecker finished before doing his helicopter routine. Quickly iPhone filmed through a window. 🪶 #Birds
I ran outside this evening to take a few pictures of rhododendrons in the yard before the forecasted thundershowers arrive tonight and tomorrow. I don’t know the names as they were here when we moved in. We transplanted them to where they are now. #BloomScrolling #PNW #Rhodys #Spring
(My Gal Is) Red Hot by Billy Lee Riley, 1957. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekSForSongs #AnimationArt This original Preston Blair drawing is Red Hot Riding Hood from the Tex Avery cartoon Swing Shift Cinderella, purchased from the Blair estate. Red inspired Jessica Rabbit of Who Framed Roger Rabbit!

Here are a couple examples of deciduous azaleas scattered throughout our yard today as I was strolling through and enjoying a pleasant 62 degree day. #BloomScrolling #Bees #Fragrance #Plants
#WeekPforPurple #AlphabetChallenge #GoodHabits #Caffeine My (minimum) daily three pod habit. The lonely espresso pod is about to get some love. Bonus purple points for the sunflower trivet! 💜
#AlphabetChallenge #WeekOforOld #Art This oil on canvas with original frame is from Seattle artist Dorothy Dolph Jensen. Dorothy was a founding member of the Women Painters of Washington in 1930. This untitled piece has been in our family since 1934. There’s some window glare on the right side.
Ugh! Be safe and keep an eye on those skies. 😬 We had a Tornadic waterspout crossing Puget Sound on Wednesday. The tornado dissipated before it came ashore in Seattle. Extremely rare event for Puget Sound!
