Just kidding I didn't even wanna play "Robert E. Lee: Civil War General" anyway. I just got it in a 2pack with the sequel. A game I've always been curious about because the badass cover art of Sherman making Georgia howl has stuck with me since childhood. And this one installs and plays fine.

Season 0 is worth a watch. You can tell it was going for a much darker tone before the card game aspect took off so well that it became an actual game rather than just a plot point in a manga/show. Very neat stuff. Also I love Toons and Ghostricks and I wish the latter weren't currently trash.

On a related note- you might want to pick up the current DCC Humble Bundle. It's got Jennell Jaquays classic "Dark Tower" and all the classic Grimtooth's Trap Books. The latter look like they'd be a lot of fun to talk about and tie into your interest in early T&T/Flying Buffalo.

Maybe y'all could play "Luchador: Way of the Mask". Not read/played it myself but it's the only TTRPG I've heard of that suggests/requires having wrestling action figures to demonstrate your sick wrestling moves to the referee.

Wait, nobody told me the queen herself Majel Barrett-Roddenberry had a cameo as a rough-and-tumble wild west robot Madam in "Westworld" (1973). The movie Michael Crichton ripped himself off with for "Jurassic Park", but which itself was probably inspired by the Star Trek TOS episode "Shore Leave".

The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act was great and also underscored how the whole series is incredibly gay in ways I can't go into without spoilers. But on a surface level - It took me way too long to realize Zooble is literally a pink triangle. Her and Gangle are a cute couple.

I do recommend Witchaven if you like 90s 2.5D FPS games. It's a pre-Duke 3D Build Engine game. The second Witchaven is alright but not as good. Largely because they traded the charming claymation goblins (90% of WH1 enemies) for 90s-ass 3D sprite renders of generic warrior dudes (90% of WH2 enemies)

Witchaven 1 & 2 went down to a dollar on sale on GOG and for some reason is going off sales-wise. So they put it under "classics". This is hilarious because Witchaven is the platonic ideal of 90s shovelware jank. Very fun and charming jank in my opinion, but definitely jank.

Finally got to run Urban Jungle: Anthropomorphic Noir Role-Play yesterday. It was a lot of fun, making a custom GM screen to better keep track of which dice combinations to roll for what tho. Still has the most gorgeous cover art for any TTRPG I've seen, by the incomparable "Lackadaisy" Tracy Butler

Star Trek 5 is *embarrassing*, but with momentary flashes of brilliance. Shatner makes baffling directorial decisions from the very opening, which keeps cutting back and forth between a man reacting in normal time to a figure on horseback bearing down on him in slow motion like a Monty Python sketch

Still on a Star Trek kick. Rewatching odd-numbered movies since like most Trekkies I've not watched them as much. My thoughts: ST3 is a good movie IF you're invested in the characters. Christopher Lloyd uses little character touches to bring dimension to what could easily have been a flat villain.

Man I just love the OG Gorn from Star Trek. It's so goofy looking, it's perfect. I can't help but smile looking at it. Even the cheesy lizard voice saying "Captain, let us be reasonable. You have lost. Admit it to yourself. Stop running." perfect & "Arena" is still a legitimately good TOS episode!

Revealed over the first 4 issues, the comic presents a scenario where the god-like Excalbians from TOS S3E23 "The Savage Curtain" (the one with space Abraham Lincoln) & god-like Organians destroy each other. Because the Excalbians were again trying to determine which was stronger, "good" or "evil".

Rereading 1984 Star Trek comic series & I still really enjoy the explanation for why the Klingons & Federation were suddenly able to fight again. As direct war between Fed & Klingons was blocked from happening by godlike Organian aliens n TOS S1E26"Errand of Mercy" the 1st appearance of the Klingons

Early TNG tie-in media was often uh... not good. The original DC comics mini-series had the TNG crew fighting Grinch inspired Aliens to save the... spirit of Christmas? I think? Time has blessedly erased most of it from my memory banks.

The older I get the more I can appreciate the original Star Trek series & movies. And there was a lot of high quality art (fan & official) made for it before TNG redefined things.

Not exaggerating about Shakespeare btw, among the many mythological stories the show pulls from Shakespeare's Scottish play with its witches is a major one. Macbeth himself is a recurring antagonist. Not exaggerating cyberpunk either, multiple stories touch on concerns re: cybernetic augmentation

On a lighter note I've finally finished "Gargoyles" (1994-97) & while not a perfect show I think it can be fairly called a great one. Distinctly 90s but well done & well aged mix of gothic fantasy & sci-fi. Shakespeare meets cyberpunk meets Vampire the Masquerade. Heady stuff for a kid's cartoon.

I like Bubba Ho-Tep but it's not the kind of movie I'm liable to watch often. No regrets trading my DVD of it for Slayers the Motion Picture.

Just saw there's a SNES game called "The Super Aquatic Games starring the Aquabats" & had to check to see if it was an old or new game. Old as it turns out, but making a new SNES game sounds like something superhero-themed comedy/rock/ska/punk band would do. Wonder if that's where they got the name?
