It's Black Cat Appreciation Day and I miss my little man, DiNozzo, so freaking much. 😿 He was the best little shadow ever and now he is stardust. ✨💫 #BlackCatsRule
Malley’s eye ruptured this weekend. He’s got major surgery Wednesday that he might not survive seeing as how he’s 20 and diabetic, but the way he’s so happy to see us and cuddle…we’re gonna give it a try. 1/2
So out here on Island County, there's a Republican running for office who...um...thinks we swoon and are emotionally swept away by drugs? I'm pretty sure he meant ravage, but hey, maybe he has a different relationship with drugs than most people.
A follow up to the small deer herd earlier this week—today, a momma & a youngling stopped by. Young one tried to walk through the screen door. I startled him and he backed up to the corner as seen in the photo.
Molli & I took a short walk to get the mail and opened our front door to this. ❤ One walked right up to our porch. I love this island.
With the amount of anti-trans legislation out there, I don't feel I have anything to celebrate today. So today I'm choosing to "out create" as Tori Amos says and use my gifts to fight fascism in @notapipe.bsky.social 's Anti-Fascism Write-a-Thon. #WriterSky
We are on the ferry heading home for good! Malley is taking the ferry ride decent enough considering he’s a bit stressed from all the hub-bub the last few days. I’m looking forward to sleeping good tonight and not having to ride the ferry again tomorrow. Now to just unpack a million boxes…
Today was nice. ❤ A good friend came out to the cabin for one of our last weekends here before we move into the new house. We sat outside at the lake & made s’more’s. I am slightly sunburned but happy. 1/
Standing in my empty new living room as today is day 1 of 5 of meeting with contractors. Mostly to arrange for small item repairs and a few moderate. It smells like paint and slightly of dust. Next week, it will be full of boxes and furniture. <3
We close on the house on Thursday and did our final walk-through this morning. When we pulled into our driveway, a deer visited us. Then two more walked by across the street. Apparently we will be living in deer-central. ❤
There are two baths and three bedrooms in the 1323 sq. ft. house. We close at the end of May and will move in sometime in June. We'll still have some work to do at the house after that as we plan to convert the garage and add in A/C. I hate unpacking, but I'm excited about this place! 3/3
The ocean is barely half a mile down the road and we have beach access (along with access to a pool, tennis courts, and a clubhouse). <3 The seller's leaving all the patio furniture for us, and I'm going to practically live in that backyard, especially since it has power and plumbing. 2/
Really happy that the house we are looking to buy has passed inspection fairly well! We need to replace the furnace and paint it, but otherwise, everything else found was fairly minor or easy to fix. <3 Considering the price we got it for, it's a serious steal. 1/
Wrote 3,1,18 words today in about 3 hours. O_o Stopping because I need to go look at houses since the house sale closes next week! Then we get to go house shopping so it's time to see what's up on Redfin. Totally on track to finish this book on time! #WriterSky
Woke up this AM to ducks in the yard right outside the bedroom window. <3 Was a nice way to wake up.
If our life hadn't gone a bit sideways, I'd be at my usual Rainforest Writers Retreat right now. I may not be, but I am at a lakeside cabin with a bunch of ducks and ducklings (and quite a few geese), so I figure it's close enough! 1/2
30 years. Today, Molli & I have been together for 30 years. ❤ We’ve been friends for even longer. There were folks who didn’t think we’d last—a lot of high school sweethearts don’t—but when you know, you know. Love you for eternity, @blahpers.bsky.social 🩵
Molli and I have been walking out to the pier and hanging out there for a bit each afternoon to take in the ducks and geese and other birds. Occasionally a fish jumps up from the lake. It's a reminder that life continues, even after loss, and the sun has been nice. 1/
Just got my copy of this anthology I’m in, full of stories written by other cancer survivors. My story is a new one I wrote days after my diagnosis—a near-future sci-fi story about holding onto love during the darkest of days. It’s called “The Things We Do for Love during the Apocalypse.” #BookSky
Malley is happily soaking up some sunbeams. He’s really happy because Molli & I slept in & didn’t go rushing off to an appt. The lake is calm but I saw a duck land earlier & the rooster has crowed a few times. For the first time since moving, I feel relaxed. The shot yesterday didn’t hurt. ;)
As long as we’re both home, Malley is enjoying this place. He’s had more nightmares of late and I know he’s feeling the loss of his brother, not to mention his home, but he’s hanging in there, as are we.
