Stolas stroked a hand down his arm, wiping away any impurities, feeling the water squeeze out of his feathers and luxuriating in the ritual of bathing. Blitzø deserved Stolas looking his best and it had been more than five days since he had been in the dashing imp’s presence. He always takes a big job right before our big night, he is a BIG imp… And he has a BIG… Stolas’ cheeks burned and he found himself clenching his thighs together at the thoughts of HIS Blitzø.

Healing would take time, and there would be scars. Stolas would have to walk the same path Blitzø did. There was one key difference though, Blitzø could walk with Stolas, so that his owl didn't have to do it alone. Bit by bit, piece by piece, they could hammer his life, their lives, into a shape they would be happy with.

With the trial, it had been Stolas’ turn. Via, his position, everything he had had been taken from him, and he blamed himself for it.

“Nothing a cup of fresh cream won't cure.” Stolas’ commented as his eyes arced up. Blitzø loved playing this game with him.

He turned and moved over to the fireplace, kneeling as he placed a pair of logs into the still-hot coals. He kindled the fire back, causing a warm glow to fill the room. “I'm guessing you would like some sausage for breakfast?”

“Mmmm, yes,” Stolas’ tone shifted to his most sultry. “Give me some sausage, and maybe I'll make you some eggs in return.”

As Blitzø reached the forest line, he tugged the reins, bringing himself to a stop. He looked back at the cottage. The cobblestone walls were green with moss and ivy. The right half of the roof was dominated by a wooden addition, Stolas’ eyrie, the left half by a widow’s walk. Even from here, Blitzø could make out the large shrouded telescope perched up there. The chimney for the hearth and bedroom fireplace slipped up the back of the addition, and small curls of white smoke could be seen drifting lazily out.
