Reading the 1968 essay that got Andre Sakharov jailed. He warned about threats from carbon emissions! (not why he was jailed). FWIW, he also called out deforestation, waste dumping, pesticide overuse, wetlands destruction as threats to what he called "earth hygiene." Guy really was a genius!

Carbon dioxide from the burning of coal is altering the heat-reflecting qualities of the atmosphere. Sooner or later, this will reach a dangerous level. But we do not know when.
