RIP Phil Regan! The 1966 All-Star pitched five years with the Cubs, ‘68 to ‘72, and briefly with the Sox in ‘72. He then spent four decades as a pitching coach, including 1997 and 1998 with the Cubs. He was Kerry Wood’s pitching coach in ‘98, meaning for Woody’s 20-K game. Salute to a lifer!
Kareem probably has the greatest career from HS to the pros. At 16, he was 7'1 and called the "next Wilt." At 40, his team tapped him to win Game 6 of the '88 Finals. In between, he won every "best player" award multiple times at every level and every championship multiple times at every level.

It was super fun to see Todd starting in the Final Four! Though I'll note, they introduced him not as "From Winnetka" but "From Chicago"...
These were HUGE additions for New Trier. Both Todd and Ivan would play division I ball; Todd was a starter on the Dwyane Wade Marquette Final Four team. They changed the trajectory of the NT squad, going downstate for the first time since 1996. There were complaints, just not from the White House.
I always think back to my senior year of high school at New Trier and the eligibility rulings for the boys basketball team, which added two new seniors: Ivan Pjevcevic from Yugoslavia and Todd Townsend from Morgan Park. Their eligibity questions were handled by the IHSA and the courts.
