Just watched The Odyssey? Here’s some actual Mycenaean bronze weapons (rapiers), found in the cemeteries of Eleona and Langada, Kos. They date from 1490 BC to 1180 BC. Held at the Archaeological Museum in Kos.
This (and I don’t say it lightly) was absolutely brilliant! So much fun. Seems like it is only in Manchester at the moment, so beg, borrow, steal yourself a ticket ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Current read - I’m actually blown away by how good this is. Utterly devastating, deeply scholarly and beautifully written. It’s going to stay with me for a very long time.

After that, this historian’s head was fully turned by the prehistoric world and I became fascinated with Pterosaurs, so I pitched a documentary about them too. The result was Flying Monsters, which won BAFTA award for special effects.
He was sharp, funny, so enthusiastic and full of curiosity. The documentary became a two-parter called First Life, and it won three Emmy Awards.
