Behold: Wet.

Rules for "The Wet Condition" in Dungeons and Dragons.

The Wet Condition: A wet creature or object is vulnerable to lighting and cold damage (this does not override immunity to those damage types), resistant to fire damage, and has advantage on d20 rolls made to avoid being grappled and to escape grapples. A wet creature or object stops being wet after two rounds. This duration can be reset by anything that can inflict the wet condition.

As a general rule, a creature or object becomes wet if at least half of its surface is covered in a liquid, provided that liquid doesn’t cause nearby water to evaporate or freeze.

Very fair. I know that ice giants are known to contain a layer of water. My thought is that asteroids entering their atmospheres could simultaneously deliver amino acids, cause physical mixing of the gas giant's layers, and provide heat through friction that would be required for some reactions.

Part of working on Redshifted is experimenting with new systems. If it doesn't work, at least I tested it and found out. But if it DOES work... Well, that's when things get interesting.

Development notes from Redshifted regarding an experimental system to create a more interesting combat experience than standard hit points can offer.

• Hit points are replaced by a pair of systems. Integrity measures how much physical punishment it takes to destroy something. Pain tolerance measures how much pain it takes to incapacitate a character.
o Drones do not feel pain.

I have reached the really exciting part in the development of Redshifted where I get to make a new character sheet. The last time I redesigned this was in September of 2024. I can FEEL the game coming to life when I do this. And it's so beautiful. #TTRPG #scifi

It's been a rough week for me (appendicitis, surgery, ongoing recovery), but #TTRPG content is back on the menu and I've got a Pathfinder game today with the boys. Here's an update on Redshifted for you #scifi fans! Check out how the new skill system limits power creep. Details in alt text.

Explanation of a roll-high skill system in which the number of dice rolled come from a character's stats and the size of those dice come from proficiency in the skill, but only the two highest rolls from among the dice are kept. This means that additional dice increase the odds of getting a good roll, statistically improving the average, but with diminishing returns as the average approaches the maximum value for two of those dice. Improving the skill's proficiency, on the other hand, always provides an increase to both the average and maximum possible roll, up to a cap.

By using these two controls in tandem, players enjoy periodic improvements to their characters' skills by increasing their proficiency in those skills, while game masters have more control over the difficulty of encounters through diminishing returns on bonuses.

This effect weakens power scaling while weighting rolls towards a narrower range of values than would be possible with only a single die, especially a d20. Adding this element of semi-predictability to rolls also helps players determine whether taking on a given challenge is a good idea with their current skills, and reduces the likelihood of frustration that comes with failing an easy task with a high skill level due to an unlucky bad roll.

This is a subtle reference to the fact that the youtuber RTGame ate an edible decoration of himself from atop his own birthday cake, demonstrating his willingness to go entirely too far in the name of content and ratings.

Despite still being in a ton of pain, I had a successful surgery and I'm already back home. Nurses wanted to keep me for another night, but said I could go home if I was able to stand and walk. Also, here's a (terrible) joke for the Team Fortress 2 players.

"Medical grade jarate" presented with stats as though it were an in-game item in Team Fortress 2. The item's model has been replaced with a photo of a plastic urine sample container used at hospitals.

I promised I'd tell you about the DynAMo system I've been cooking for my #scifi #TTRPG Redshifted. Here it is. We no longer divide the combat round into turns. We divide it into seconds. It is ALWAYS your turn, and this removes a major slowdown at some tables: Inattention.
