The air quality in parts of Oregon and most of Washington state is somewhere from "unhealthy" to "this is fucking toxic". Wear an N95 mask if you have to go outside, and use an air purifier inside. Also the AQI scale only goes up to 500 and it's getting maxed out. We're gonna need a bigger scale.

According to the LA Times article, the record set in California was for an entire month. Maybe that's the distinction.

California hit a major milestone in May, generating more than half its electricity from the sun in what is believed to be a global first, according to an analysis of federal data.

“California has had a wealth of solar growth in the last five years,” said Abby Lestina, an analyst at Grid Status, a group that tracks electricity supply and demand in U.S. power markets but was not involved with the analysis. “It makes sense that they would reach this goal.”

It’s the first time a large-scale power system is known to have surpassed 50% solar for an entire month.

Hi folks - We're happy to report Chris's prostate removal surgery was a success! Now the long recovery process starts, and it could be up to a year before Chris is completely recovered.

Chris is in the hospital the day after his prostate surgery and sitting in a chair, which is progress!

The Chico branch of the Butte County (CA) library is now closed indefinitely due to the murder of two people on June 22nd. This library is a genuine community resource and meeting space, and it likely had many programs lined up for kids for the summer. 😢 www.buttecounty.ca.gov/528/Library

The Chico Branch of the Butte County Library was previously scheduled to temporarily close, beginning in August, for renovations. It will reopen once renovations are complete. If you have any library materials to be returned, please either hold onto them or visit one of our other 5 branches to return your materials.

Chico patrons can pick up their holds at the Durham Branch. If you'd like to cancel your holds or if you'd like to pick them up at a different branch, please call us at 530-552-5652, opt. 2 or email us at library@buttecounty.ca.gov.

The Gettys were one of the richest families in the world, and Gavin Newsom’s father was their ‘consigliere’. In 1973, when John Paul Getty III was kidnapped by the Calabrian mafia, it fell to Bill Newsom to fly to Italy to get him back. At first he suspected that his godson – ‘Little Paul’, a trust fund kid locked out of his trust – might have staged his own abduction, but changed his mind when an Italian newspaper received Paul’s severed ear in the post. Bill helped put the ransom together: $2.9 million in cash, negotiated down from an initial demand of $17 million (eminently affordable, but why overpay?) and structured to be mostly tax-deductible. One of Gavin Newsom’s earliest memories is of riding in a car with Paul Getty to go Christmas shopping, under instructions not to mention the missing ear. He had a sense that ‘the Newsoms had been tied to the Gettys for a long time,’ even if he didn’t then understand how – he wondered if they were cousins. In his new memoir, he writes that his father, an aspiring writer turned lawyer, had ‘altered the course of his life to provide aid, counsel and comfort to the Gettys. When misfortune or scandal found one Getty scion or another, it was Bill Newsom, family consigliere, who flew off in one direction or another to the rescue.’ In return, the Gettys invested in his only son’s business ventures and backed his campaigns for mayor of San Francisco and governor of California. In Young Man in a Hurry, Newsom insists that though he grew up with the Gettys – sometimes living in their mansions and flying on their jet (the ‘Jetty’) – he was never one of them, and owes them no fealty.

WebinarTV claims to host more than 200,000 webinars. It’s not clear how it’s recording so many Zoom calls without permission, but in some cases the stolen videos posted to WebinarTV can put call participants at risk. "
