Good evening in Waterstones Argyle St tonight with @silviamg.bsky.social in conversation with Camilla Grudova - a Mexican author living in Vancouver chatting with a Canadian author living in Edinburgh. Great conversation, even if the supply of new books was being held hostage by the postal service!
Hoping to make this event in Waterstones in Glasgow tomorrow. I read The Packet by @neilwilliamson.bsky.social last week, looking forward to picking up his new collection. And Home Sick by @rhiannonagrist.bsky.social literally just arrived, the last of a batch of books pre-ordered from Waterstones!
@bookclubmembers.bsky.social hey you damn guys, been enjoying the Absolute Wonder Woman episodes. Read what you've discussed so far as singles, but just bought the hardbacks as a treat & going to reread. Had mixed feelings about the Absolute stuff, cause none of it holds up to Wonder Woman!
Set up a storygraph so I could post easy monthly summaries, especially as I always end up bad at posting summaries! Here is what I read in June. Observed Pride month with a lot of the book selections. And been doing a lot of Hellboy catching up on the side. #booksky #RemoteReads 💙📚
Been great to hear your tentative beginnings and persistent joy and enthusiasm from the start. And how much the format has evolved over the years. Heard the 1st "hey you damn guys" and was sure i took a snapshot when it came up in the comic, but can't find on my camera roll, so guess not. Weird.
@hellboybookclub.bsky.social hey you damn guys, guess who is reading all the Hellboy? Reread early stuff, catching up on a lot of the newer stuff. Did BPRD last year, 1st read Baltimore this year. Gone back and started listening from the start, up to episode 11. Though read/listened to Giant Robot.
Along with the one scroll of doom, artist Ashley Rawson has another piece in Central Station for the World Cup. Also for the World Cup are these dugs, this one in Central wearing the Scotland strip!
And here is another short haunting clip from tonight's set by @alisoncotton.bsky.social in the Glad Cafe. Support from Colossal Letdown was also memorable, a droney dark ambient set.
Caught @alisoncotton.bsky.social again tonight at Glasgow's Glad Cafe. Another stunning gig. Took a couple of short clips just to give you a taste. Looking forward to the new album pre-order adding to my bandcamp tomorrow! 🎧🎶
been meaning to dabble in one of those sites that generates graphics like this, since i keep doing badly at posting about what i'm reading. i did join one a few years ago and then never used it, can't even remember which one. but here we go, lets see how i get on. May reading 206 #RemoteReads 🩵📚
Arriving at hospital at 8.10 for appointment at 8.45, only to be told dept doesn't open till 9. Test should take 10 minutes, but allow hour and half. Going to be a long morning! But, I've got a book, and I know how to use it! Italo Calvino's Cosmicomics.
Today's post @bengalart.bsky.social Core Collapse Supernova, with fundraising campaign certificate, mini colouring book, print and pack of postcards. Big Bengal fan, since I stumbled on his work in a French bookshop years ago, so I've been looking forward to this.
Was in Glasgow's Forbidden Planet and picked up some stuff. Glad to have complete Nemesis, previous editions vanished. Recent indie book written by @gwillow.me to look forward to. And keen to read latest from local writer @johnlees.bsky.social #comicsky #comics #booksky 💙📚
Well. Everyone else in the office may be using the identical default wallpaper, but not me. Hemification has been done.
The other day, @lukebelcourt.com and I were discussing books about writing. So I was just getting round to looking up book he mentioned, which looks likely to be out of print. But there is another book, very similar title, very recent print, something makes me suspicious. And there it is in preview
Well my copy of First Mage On The Moon by @cameronjohnston.bsky.social arrived today - looking forward to reading. #booksky 💙📚
This is the one. Someone posted a recommendation list and I've picked a few up. I have habit of accruing random ones with best of intentions. While also being wary of the industrial writing complex pyramid scheme and conformance plan.
Today's post from @goshcomics.bsky.social - print by @decassette.bsky.social magazine from @peow.bsky.social and art book by Luan Tie (aka dirtyiron)
Despite being shattered, I thoroughly enjoyed Amal El-Mohtar and Terry Windling in Waterstones Argyle St tonight. The conversation was supposed to be fairies, but was as much about friendship. I particularly enjoyed talking to various friends, catching up. #booksky 💙📚
Suddenly, I felt like I was being watched, looking up I found the kids at the next table looking on with envy.
Oh. Title: What I'm Here For. A busy hospital at Christmas, short staffed, nurses all on overtime, all systems collapse. Five actresses, one central stage, the others sat behind, coming up as needed. Layering texts. Surtitles in Danish and English on split screens.
