🌱 I need to deadhead these Calendula to keep them under control, but it has been too hot and smoky to do much in the garden the past few days. Calendula, aka "Pot Marigold" reseeds like crazy and can take over a space like they did in this area. #garden #Zone8b #bloomscrolling
🌱 It's a stay off of social kind of day. Dr. Fauci saved lives. I knew people who refused the vaccine because of right-wing politicians and ultimately lost their lives to Covid. I'm grateful to have a garden to find solace. Enjoy this white Hollyhock bloom from my #garden. #bloomscrolling #Zone8b
A couple of hot air balloons this evening, from the view of my backyard. Every now and then we will see them. They're fun to watch.
This is another example, from the youngest level, the Daisies. My daughter didn't enjoy sitting around listening to stories and answering questions or drawing. She was more of a rough and tumble kid, who did not mesh with the Girl Scout model. But she loved going after Eagle in Scouts BSA.
It's the curriculum. Scouts BSA and Campfire USA teach skills through outdoor activities. Girl Scouts books are more like school curriculum, and outdoor activities are not encouraged. Lots of crafts. This example is from a Junior Girl Scout book. It's wildly different from outdoor based curriculum.
🌱 This is 'Sheila's Perfume'. She struggles a little bit because she's in pretty deep shade most of the day. She gets a small amount of sun in late afternoon. Hopefully, after our fence is finished, we can find a more suitable spot for her. Her scent is divine. #bloomscrolling #garden #Zone8b
Goodnight Bluesky. America leaves 250 years in the past. The future is ours to shape. This was the view from my backyard. Fireworks were a constant all evening long.
🌱 Today was a beautiful, balmy, comfortable day. Feeling grateful. Hope your 4th was fabulous. For those in the PNW, enjoy the fireworks as the shows begin around the region. #garden #Zone8b #bloomscrolling
I visited the Billy Frank Jr. National Wildlife Refuge for the first time today. This is the view of #MountTahoma / #MountRainier from the end of the mile-long Nisqually estuary boardwalk. There are so many beautiful places to see in Washington State, it may be impossible to visit all of them.
🌱 I think I'll start calling my "purple garden" the "jewel tones garden". I'm not going to edit the beauties that self-seed in my garden beds. These snapdragons that now reside in my purple bed originated in a #garden bed that is dedicated to yellow, orange and peach tones. #bloomscrolling #Zone8b
🌱 In 2020 a friend recommended that I start to #garden again. My mom had passed, I was deep in grief, we were worried about finances due to the pandemic. I bought a tiny penstemon for $12, which seemed expensive. I have since divided that plant many times. It was money well spent. #bloomscrolling
Thankful that Washington State didn't waste taxpayer dollars to have a booth at the State Fair in Washington DC. I can't wrap my brain around how the "fiscally conservative" party finds so many ways to waste taxpayer money.
🌱This bold beauty is a hybrid tea called "Eleganza Grande Amore'. It's a bright red rose with a warm undertone. While most of my roses are planted in the ground, this one seems happy enough growing in a half whiskey barrel. #bloomscrolling #garden #Zone8b
🌱 Wishing everyone a happy #pride weekend! 🏳️🌈 This rose from my #garden is blooming bright. Its name is Poseidon. #bloomscrolling #Zone8b
Both books are beautifully printed hard cover coffee-table style books. The Pantry book is filled with recipes.
Looking forward to trying some of the recipes in the 'Attainable Sustainable' book series written by Kris Bordessa and published by National Geographic. 📚 #books www.attainable-sustainable.net
🌱 It's going to be a hot day. I stepped out my door and the scent of roses fills the air in the heat. This is what I dreamed of as I planted approx. 70 rose plants on 1/4 acre. This rose is 'Emily Bronte'. #bloomscrolling #garden #Zone8b #roses
🌱 Happy Monday! Wishing you a wonderful week of creativity. This rose is named after the modern painter and printmaker Marc Chagall. I was a little iffy about adding it to my garden because it seemed a bit wild, now I love it and grow 5 plants together in a #garden bed. #bloomscrolling #Zone8b
🌱 This beauty is called 'Earth Angel' and grows in part sun (shade in the day, sun in the evening). I #garden on 1/4 acre and ran out of space to plant roses in full sun, so I planted some in part sun and part shade. This one actually does quite well. #bloomscrolling #Zone8b
🌱 When I come home and see roses in bloom all around my garden, I can't help but smile. This is 'Scepter'd Isle'. #bloomscrolling #garden #Zone8b
🌱 This is 'Gentle Hermione'. Today I cut the lupins down so the roses could shine. The lupins will grow back in a few weeks and will bloom again next spring. #bloomscrolling #garden #Zone8b
Wonderful day trip today. Enjoyed a long drive to Kitsap county to watch a performance of Disney's Frozen, The Broadway Musical in the magical setting of the forest. The presentation by the Mountaineers Players was professional. Gorgeous voices and excellent acting. www.foresttheater.com
🌱 My 'Rosa Gallica officinalis' is blooming. This rose is considered to be the oldest rose in commerce. It was grown as the apothecary rose. It was also the symbol of the house of Lancaster during the Wars of the Roses. I keep mine in a tub because this rose sends out suckers. #bloomscrolling
