Finally trying out the Pokopia update, and players have been seriously burying the lead because they should be shouting these new toggles from the heavens
Storebound An unfortunately disappointing package after such a promising start. After Episode 2, every player build felt interchangeable, and the puzzles got significantly more tedious starting with Episode 5. The presentation can be pretty fun at times, but there's no real substance to speak of
Muppets Party Cruise [revisit] I can't think of another party game with as much of a quality disparity in its minigames than this. Some of them are unironically excellent, some of them are the worst things I've ever played. All of them are funny. There's a shocking amount of unique voice lines too
🅱️ikmin 269 DX: Director's Cut My third time playing through this mod (original, DX, Director's Cut), and is maybe my favorite way to play Pikmin 2. It also has the majority of upcoming P2+ QOL, but with content that suits a modern mod. The level design is deceptively deep, and is well worth a play
🅱️ikmin PC A stealth beta for Pikmin 2 Plus, as it incorporates the majority of QOL that'll be available when that releases. Despite that, I can only recommend this if you want context for the 🅱️ikmin """franchise""" or have an astronomical tolerence for bullshit
Deltarune: Chapter 5 You'd think there'd eventually be a lull point with this episodic format. Like, a Chapter drops where people would unambiguously say that the previous installments were better That has. Not happened.
Pikmin 2: Regrown (Revisit) Last played this shortly after the initial release, so a good amount was added in that time. It's still a vanilla+ experience with a few extra goodies here and there, which makes it inherently good. Arguably the best way to play the inarguably best Pikmin game
Mina the Hollower Yacht Club Games knocks it out of the park once more. Fairly challenging and tight gameplay in an artstyle that's spritually faithful to 8-bit systems. There's a shocking amount of content to speak of, and I'm still working on 100% completion at time of writing
Öoo Short but sweet metroidbrainia. Has some of the absolute best level design for teaching mechanics I've ever seen. Will occasionally dead-end a player so they can use their new knowledge elsewhere, which I don't think I've ever seen used this explicitly before; I think more games should try it!
FRLG.IPS While I love a good ARG game, the beginning is probably too obtuse for most (need meta knowledge before starting the game itself). Otherwise, it's a satisfying dive into creepypasta tropes. It's a bit pretentious, but it was made in just 5 months and has an original score, so I'll allow it
Celia's Stupid Romhack A strong contender for the funniest game I've ever played. Celia harnessed the autistic energy code-savvy Melee players usually put into platform fighters and redirected it to her comedy skit disguised as a puzzle game disguised as a shitpost. Play it with friends immediately
R.E.P.O. [revisit | Cosmetic Update] The single best "friendslop" game by a considerable margin, and it's not even fully released! Every single major content update has been excellent, and this was no exception. I reinstalled Unity after ~3 years exclusively to make shitpost mods for my friends
Overcome Your Fears - Caretaker Pretty barebones, but a servicable start to an episodic series. The biggest appeal are the inventive animations that play on a television in the house, and I hope other episodes contain similar content
Miyamoto on F-Zero: "I think where I struggle is that I don't really have a good idea for what's new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again" Miyamoto on StarFox:
Mario Party 4 Deluxe Mario Party 4 is bad and anyone who says otherwise is lying to your face. While Deluxe improves the item-play, it can only do so much for the absolute worst traditional boards in the entire franchise. It's indisputably the best way to play MP4, but you shouldn't play MP4
77p egg: Cubicle 77 One of the best spot-the-anomaly games out there, thanks to an absolutely absurd amount of variations in rotation. Didn't expect 77p egg to become a franchise, but I'm here for it (Eggwife part 2 when)
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park Not even remotely worth the upgrade. The koopalings don't even attempt to fit the same artstyle, and all the "new" content is either functionally multiplayer-exclusive or remixed challenge-runs of basegame content. Avoid
Grunn Delighted to learn that "Metroidbrainia" is a proper genre, and describes a type of game that I absolutely adore—Grunn absolutely included. Uniquely, this game teaches the player what to NOT do; it's easy to autopilot in "cozy" games, so this game's "unlearning" process sticks out. Neat!
Pokémon Pokopia I came in with low expectations, and now two weeks of my life are forfeit. There's always, always, ALWAYS something you can be doing. Has the *exact* kind of "edge" that so many people have been longing for in cozy games. Warrants legal classification as an addictive substance
Dates back to X & Y speculation, where a common theory was both Xerneas and Yveltal would embody new types Why it persists *now* is beyond me
Checking out the settings for Stoat, and these might be the single funniest descriptors for UK/US English I've ever seen
