I was so honored to sit down with Antwanisha Williamson and Cynthia Adams at the Oakland Museum of a California to talk about the legacy of Port Chicago. Port Chicago is not just history - it lives in people like me, whose grandfather lived through and survived the tragedy.

As someone who was born congenitally blind and has been dependent on public transit my entire life – I know the importance of accessible, reliable public transportation. I secured $850k in federal funding for a community project -this will support LED lighting upgrades at 9 stations across CA12.

Daphne Muse was a mother, mentor, intellectual, disability rights advocate, writer & a keeper of Black stories. At Mills College she mentored countless young scholars and gave her heart to the education of women and girls -- including me. Oakland raised a giant, may her name be remembered always.

The Trump Administration is waging a war on public health in the United States. California alone has lost $21 million in NIH funding since 2025 -- funding that supported HIV prevention, health disparity and infectious disease research, and lifesaving biomedical research.

I just introduced the Safeguarding American Families And Expanding (SAFE) Social Security Act. This bill would expand Social Security for seniors & families in CA and across the country. I am working everyday to ensure that hardworking Americans' earned benefits are there when they need them most.

My fifth bill, the bipartisan Small Business Cybersecurity Assistance Evaluation Act, just passed the House of Representatives. In my district alone there are over 16,000 small businesses, and we know that main street businesses drive innovation, create jobs, and support communities.

I am proud to announce that my fifth bipartisan bill has PASSED the House. The “Small Business Cybersecurity Assistance Evaluation Act” would ensure that main street businesses, especially minority-, women-, disabled-, & veteran- owned small businesses, are protected against cybersecurity threats.

Since the start of 2026, I have delivered over $524 million in federal funding for the East Bay. This funding will support health centers, biomedical research, arts organizations, and other projects throughout the district.

Communities in West Oakland have been dealing with the health impacts of environmental racism for decades. A coal terminal in their backyards and trains carrying coal along the Bay will only exacerbate an already deadly problem. I am using every tool available to me to stop this coal terminal.

We have a deep history of LGBTQ+ resistance in the Bay Area, from the Berkeley Gay Liberation Front, to the publication of Gay Sunshine & the community building that happened at White Horse Bar on Telegraph Ave., to the deep activism of elected leaders & community orgs during the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Pride was born out of an act of resistance, a fight for liberation. It was, and remains, a movement built by and for those of us who believe a more just, equal, and liberated society is possible.
