Climbed 7FJ over the weekend! 8k climbed monster of a day This one meant a lot to me. 9 years ago I tried climbing here and, while I was unsuccessful then, I really fell in love with the Glacier Peak area. Felt like a really nice reflection on my life coming back and doing this one!
The inevitable next step of microscopy, biology! Having fun with some pond water samples Here’s what I think is some Cyanobacteria on his way! Oscillatoria 400x
Citric acid 400x It’ll never not fascinate me how much complexity exists at the tiniest scales This image is about a 400μm square. That’s 0.016 square mm! A cross section of a hair would take up half of this frame And yet all those little pillars, lines, jagged cliffs, and sheer drops are there
Extinction crosses on starch crazy, this is just from like a tiny drop of the liquid on the cutting board
Potato cells at 100x Love that the starch is just physically packed in there!
This was a jank setup with sunglasses and a laptop lol, so the photo is kinda bad getting polarizing film tomorrow
when I say I am bisexual I now mean I am birefringentsexual MSG under polarized light
Just found out laptop screen and phone screens are polarized, and with polarized sunglasses you can see photoelasticity really easily
found out how to do darkfield, gonna do some focus stacking later because this is sick
I skied down too! Fun climb, pretty area, and just the right amount of spice with steep icy snow and volcanic fumes pouring out of fumaroles
bunch of starch particles from whole wheat flour at 1000x Particles are: - flowing in the water droplet - wiggling cause of brownian motion - falling to the bottom of the slide and out of focus
