So my black cat got killed on the road outside my house today. He was the loveliest and most affectionate cat, and much loved by my teenagers. Poor Dallas, we loved you
For international cat day, the latest and youngest of the various cats we’ve had - some of whom have rehomes themselves, but one of whom was with us until the age of 23. Both were rescued as kittens; the black cat is about 2 (M, Dallas) and the tortie is about 1, and our only fluffy cat (Pepper)
One of the things I love best about my 17 year old is how she chats away to the cats: it’s so sweet. The tortie is a kitten she found abandoned at about 4 weeks old and brought home. Yes, we kept her
#earlymodern people - interested in your views on this. I’m a recent article in ELR Wendy Wall modernizes all sources. This seems like a more radical change than the footnote implies!
And here is a copy of @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social translation on hydra (with curious child) and other child reading graphic version (2018).
Like every other academic my age I am facing a serious book issue: I’ve too many of them and need to offload most of them. But finding homes for them is almost impossible-and there’s something sad about getting rid of a collection that tracks my thinking over the years
I’m writing a lot about form (early modern women) but have also become a bit obsessed with Hepworth so this quote (so eloquent and so concise!) in Eleanor Clayton’s fabulous book really lands
Thank you so much. John Brannigan put me on to Adam. No need for me to seek out gulls - have a pair on my roof. One of the chicks fell off at the weekend so me and my daughter took him to Kildare wildlife rescue (broken leg)
Please send me your bird lit recommendations, especially if they are focussed outside Europe (plotting a new module)
Cost of living - England. Does this look like £20 of food to you? Leeds Bradford airport. Jesus wept
I’m sure this is a decent book, but this kind of thing actually makes me feel a bit demented - 3 pages on women of which 1.5 are pictures of annunciations…just off to grind my teeth for a bit. Back later
Loved this - in Borough Yards. I might have to change my bsky handle from rhetorician to tropewalker!
The parts of a book: 7 years, 7 chapters. About another 5000 words to write and then cutting, editing, rewriting.
A lovely spring picture from the banks of the royal canal, Dublin, for this May morning
Here’s a little (mostly Catholic/jesuit) booklist in a 1670 copy of Crashaw
I have been meaning to do this for years; this is based on Patricia Crawford’s list of published books by women in Mary Prior’s 1985 collection. Blue line is first editions, orange is all editions. Years are in 5 year intervals.
At ANU to give a paper @englishanu.bsky.social and enjoyed walking round campus, the smell of eucalyptus and my visit to the National Gallery of Australia
When is a spine not a spine; when its shelved outwards (initials are for the author Francis Quarles) @statelibraryvic.bsky.social
You have to love an early modern graphic novel; from Quarles, Divine Poems (1634) in the Emmerson collection @statelibraryvic.bsky.social
Happy birthday for tomorrow Tracy! I had a party, lunch with my best friends and afternoon tea with my family ❤️
