We have been working since 1924 to secure a more balanced assessment of Richard III and to support research into his life and times. We have a broad interest in the late 15th C.
Our thanks to Craig Smith for a fascinating talk on the coinage of Edward IV, Edward V and Richard III especially during the spring of 1483. Members will be able to watch a recording of this, soon.
24 July 1469 The Battle of Edgecote Field. It was a disaster for Edward IV who was captured by the earl of Warwick not long after. For more on this unusual battle, see richardiii.net/richard-iii-...

21 - 30 July 1476. 550 years ago the reburial of Richard duke of York and his son Edmund in the family mausoleum at Fotheringhay. They had been buried in Pontefract after their deaths in 1460. This was a lengthy and solemn event. For more see richardiii.net/wp-content/u... [PDF]
19 July 1483, Edward of Middleham, son of Richard III was made Lieutenant of Ireland.
17th July 1453 John Talbot Earl of Shrewsbury was killed in France at the battle of Castillon. He was the father of Eleanor Talbot.

6 July 1483 The Coronation of King Richard III and Queen Anne. We know a great deal about the Coronation thanks to extensive records. The book 'The Coronation of Richard III: The Extant Documents' is the go-to book for this. Now out of print, it can be read online at the internet Archive

Emma Dyson & Eleanor Watson have written an article outlining the project to transcribe & create a digitally annotated edition of the most splendid of the manuscripts created to celebrate Edward IV’s right to the English throne. This will be published in the 2026 issue of The Ricardian.

On 28 June 1461 Archbishops Bourchier of Canterbury and Booth of York crowned Edward IV at Westminster Abbey, the only part of his transformation from duke of York to king of England that had not taken part in early March.
Richard formally accepted: he rode to Westminster Hall where he sat in the chair which represented the king’s authority. The ceremonies then moved to Westminster Abbey where Richard was given the sceptre of St Edward the Confessor. 2/3
26 June 1483: Richard III becomes king In early summer 1483 meetings were held over several days with the lords spiritual & temporal & ‘the people of London’. They presented Richard with a petition to accept the throne. 1/3
