Sir Stephen Timms: On that, there is one use of AI that is quite
interesting, which is scanning incoming letters—handwritten or typed
letters. We look at those and AI is used to find out whether the letter is
revealing some element of risk or vulnerability around the person. We
can do that on the day the letter is received so that you can then alert
somebody that there might be an issue here and the Department can
respond appropriately.
Neil Couling: The issue is 25,000 letters come into the Department
every day and they do all get looked at, but it takes a period of time to
get to them. What this piece of AI does is bring the cases of vulnerability
to the surface. Particularly, say, if there is a suicide risk, it gets that
straight to an agency to say, “You have to do something about this.”
Elizabeth Fairburn: It is worth mentioning in addition to that we have
our call listening service as well, which does what that solution does but
for our calls. We have it on 40% of our calls. Through our next period of
modernisation we will expand that, but it means that somebody can
intervene if there is a specific distress just to check that we have actually
done what we need to for that customer and, if we have not, we can
intervene on that as well.
Sir Stephen Timms: Are we using AI for that?
Elizabeth Fairburn: It is just a call listening service, so it is a word
screen.
Neil Couling: In theory, if you build that data strongly enough, you
could lay some AI across that to improve how it operates, but job one is
to expand it from 40%.
Elizabeth Fairburn: Yes.
Neil Couling: There is no point applying AI until you can do that.

Just noting the DWP SoS publicly accused thousands of people of fraud with the connivance of the media, and they all agreed this was fine and yeah we should treat people cruelly when their health impacts their ability to work.

🚨BREAKING -- Reporting restrictions have finally been lifted on the first Filton case, concerning a Palestine Action raid on an Elbit Systems factory in Bristol.

The media is now allowed to report that the activists can be sentenced with regard to a "terrorism connection".

The jury was not allowed to know that this "terrorism connection" could be applied at sentencing, and found four of the six defendants guilty of "criminal damage", with one of them also convicted of GBH without intent.

Being sentenced as terrorists means the activists could face significantly longer prison sentences and would be listed as terrorists upon release.

The other two defendants, Zoe Rogers and Jordan Devlin, were found not guilty.
