By the definition of his position, Dart is the Giants’ first-rounder who needs to be held to the highest standard. The franchise’s OG of Super Bowl coaches, Bill Parcells, used to tell Phil Simms: “I don’t need any celebrity quarterback. I need a battlefield commander.”

Dart is a modern-day Broadway Joe. He has every right to enjoy the spoils of New York in the social media age as long as he understands that every decision he makes — as a potential franchise quarterback — will impact the locker room, the coaching staff, the front office and the fan base.

Just when the 49ers reopened their Super Bowl window — first by reeling off 13 wins last year, including a road playoff victory against the Eagles, then by adding wide receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa during the offseason — their bitter NFC West rivals traded for one of the game’s most feared game changers.

To say it sent shockwaves throughout the 49ers’ building would be an understatement. In fact, a better description would be complete disbelief that the Rams could pull off such a stunning deal.

“That’s A-I,” 49ers quarterback Mac Jones blurted out when safety Malik Mustapha pulled him aside in a 49ers’ hallway and showed him the news about the blockbuster deal on his phone.

But the Raiders were without a key participant: Jermod McCoy. The fourth-round cornerback made strides last week, as he was not overtly held out from any activities during OTAs. It was a change from rookie minicamp, when he didn’t participate during team periods and most individual drills. Whether he’s continued improving is less clear after Thursday’s absence.

McCoy missed his final collegiate season with a torn right ACL. While he’s since recovered from that injury, it’s believed a cartilage issue in the knee led to his fall to the fourth round of the draft. Kubiak said last week that the Raiders have a program in place for McCoy to manage his health.

“(Raiders wellness coordinator) Alex Guerrero has a great plan for him as far as how many yards we give him a day, the rest that we give them, the time on the field as opposed to the turf,” Kubiak said. “But the great thing about Jermod thus far is he’s responded really well.”
