Charlottesville, “Littera scripta manet…”
FYI from March budget slides. City would have to manage bond vs cash projects to stay within debt service policy, taking into account other potential priorities for bonds.
Seen on Little Clarendon Street in Oxford today, an Oxford comma about which there should be no dispute.
From Governor-elect Spanberger’s comments after meeting with Governor Youngkin. Presumably D legislative leaders and the transition team are working on packages of bills and policies for the coming session. Livable Cville may want to send an advocacy letter to senate, house, and transition officials
Questions for the School Board re funding described below. 1. How much did Charlottesville receive? 2. How was it allocated and what did it buy? 3. Are procured items in place? 4. Has improvement been measured? 5. Is there a plan to continue improving with an eye to future pandemics?
Fifty years ago, E.B. White wrote to someone with concerns for humanity. Certainly in bleak times there are things we need to do in our collective life, but there are also things we need to do in our individual lives. And hope is something that crosses both.
Primary done, general in November. Vote to make the difference you want to see.
Cancelling SpaceX would have to be a drawn out process given lack of competition and cost of competing. cset.georgetown.edu/wp-content/u...
Administration’s budget proposal for HUD. May not pass as submitted but direction is clear with changes probably at the margins. Significant implications for state and local budget discussions as White House tries to offload responsibilities and pass resource demands to others.
A thought for the day from a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Secretary of State, and Republican governor and presidential candidate. Decades old but relevant today. (From Wordsmith.org)
Agree for sure. (also typo *6–3, not 6-4). Am presuming the even more attenuated legal reasoning here will be a factor along with whatever concern for institutional integrity remains among one or two justices. Can also hope that as Marcus Aurelius said.
Fascinating long essay by Umberto Eco 30 years ago worth the time to go through. Discussion of Ur-Fascism still resonates. A free read from NY review. www.nybooks.com/articles/199...
