August ‘93 was my first show as well! Back in Michigan. No Prince, but we did stand there in pure disbelief while they sang Freebird a cappella.
Eventually the dust will settle and we will pick up the pieces because that’s what we do. That’s all we can do. Tomorrow will be a new day, and that means one more day closer to putting this all in our rearview. I choose to not forget we can still make things better, even when it feels like…this. 🫶
Sunday summertime sunsets are extra nice. Sure was a hot one here today in SLC though. We broke a 150 year old record for the hottest temperature ever recorded at 109°F. Yeah. Hot.
My boy is now walking Atticus home using his umbrella to protect the kitty from the sprinklers. My dad heart is…just…🥹🥲
My boy really loves when the neighborhood cats come over for a visit, but our neighbor’s kitty, Atticus, is definitely his favorite. (Now’s he’s trying to convince me to let the cat inside to watch the World Cup game with us 😆)
Yesterday’s skies during the storms were awesome. If you’ve ever had to duck dive under a wave, or are getting held down and you look up where you *hope* to see the light - the churning path to the air above kinda looks just like this. All I wanna do is catch my breath…
To end the night on a positive note, a good reminder lest we’ve all forgotten the wise and timeless words of these two brave young men....
Had to make a run to the car last night coming out of the grocery store. A bit of a mayfly hatch was underway. Nothing like I used to see back in Michigan during the summer thankfully. But still picking them out/off of the car this morning. Crunchy!
No idea who to credit this meme to, but I legitimately laughed right out loud and scared the dog sleeping next to me 😂. Same dude, same….
Monochrome Monday: from the Bingham Canyon Copper Mine. “You're an interesting species. An interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares.” -Carl Sagan from “Contact”
I meant right here…there’s one lone thing of *something* nobody wanted still in the freezer. Reminds me of the chocolate hummus in Trader Joe’s left behind during the early days of the start of the Covid pandemic! 🤢🤮
It’s getting apocalyptic looking here in the 801. Yowzers. Dry winter with little snow, dry spring with little rain, hot temps, and zero environmental stewardship from our state (and national) leaders…and this is the result. It’s not even July. Jeeezus man.
I took this video from South Jordan, Utah showing the smoke coming from the two new fires near Tooele: the Maple Peak Fire, and the Cherry Fire. Plus the Iron Fire is still going and is approaching 45,000 acres and only 27% containment. It’s going to be a LONG summer. Hot + dry + windy=🔥🧑🚒🚒
Anyone else experience Reisefieber before a trip? It translates from German as “travel fever” but it’s more analogous to having that nervous excited ANXIOUS feeling leading up to heading out on a trip or vacation. I don’t know what it is…but it’s also probably why I end up overpacking usually 😂.
“That’s really far out…” - Ein weiterer deutscher Klassiker aus den 80ern.
As seen from the Bingham Canyon Mine access road here in Utah. The largest and deepest human-made open-pit excavation mine in the world.
A lovely reprieve; smoke from the fires have cleared out of the valley after we had some small storms which rolled thru here in Salt Lake today. Made for a pretty sunset (and a few bonus sunlit mammatus’ish clouds). Hoping the fire crews will be okay with the crazy 60mph winds forecasted tomorrow. 😔
Wishing I could just live back out here on the coast again. I walk for miles along the beach, usually without even headphones…just lost in thought. When people talk about a happy place, this is mine. I (mostly) love where I live, but my heart will always be wishing for this…
He HAS to call a special session for the state to ban them this year. It’s not up to the cities.
I asked Chat GTP to help me identify what year a VW bus was…and it got it wrong (split Safari windows tells me it was no later than a ‘67. So I told it to “look again”, and its response was apologetic? So weird. Imagining challenging Google’s search years ago; it never would have become “the google”
This fire is getting dangerously close to the University of Utah and Red Butte Gardens. Holy smokes. 😱 screenshot of video from @holycrapimfat.bsky.social
A decade ago, I was fortunate enough to catch David Hockney’s 80th Birthday exhibit at The Getty in LA, getting to see Pearblossom Hwy and Still Life Blue Guitar (63 Polaroids!). An iconoclastic artist - I figured he probably wouldn’t have minded if I bent the rules a bit. No photography?! RIP sir
Tried this last night and I still don’t know what my brain thought about it. It was a VERY subtle pickle flavor in the beer. Would probably be great to boil some bratwurst with though. It was like LaCroix level of flavor - but instead of fruit, it was pickle. And instead of soda, it was beer. 🤔
This. ☝️😍 Was able to politely make my way right up front with my son - took a couple quick photos and my 9yo got high fives from the nice folks in the front as it was his first time seeing Trey. I’ve been smiling all day about it. How many venues have a garden in front of the stage like this?
