I love my friends and books and am a nerd for languages and their history. Also movies, photography, sports and Billie the Cat.
Immensely exciting book mail, shoutout to @causticcovercritic.bsky.social for the recommendation! #booksky 💙📚
Library haul! Thank you for the recommendations!! @ds228.bsky.social , @causticcovercritic.bsky.social @jacquiwine.bsky.social #booksky 📚💙
This is the one I ordered. Also in worse condition than described so seriously considering to send it back.
Medimops* haul! I don’t do these very often, and I had an awful day so this is a wonderful reward. The Almudena Grandes is from last week. #BookSky 💙📚 *German second hand seller
Ich hab das schon ewig auf meinem Phone und hatte keine Ahnung dass dieser legendäre Tweet von Katie Dippold war lol.
This one by Mukasonga (106 pages) was published by Folio for 2€. Classics like Hugo’s Notre-Dame cost 4€.
Ok the Italian ones are around 13€, but they’re really nice, like this one from Oscar Mondadori
You might already know this one, I started it yesterday. Will try to find more of Pat Parker‘s poetry when I’ve finished reading it.
Good Morning. Sitting outside reading a magazine for Italian learners. Almost like a holiday.
Thanks to @staggerlee42.bsky.social I tried to do my own Guardian list but aimed to stop at ~ 50. I cheated a bit and added plays and short stories!! only one per author. With that top 50 limit it turned a bit too old/classic, but those are the books I’ve read that stuck most with me #booksky
I’m yearning for this one! But I heard the one with Tourgueniev is brilliant too.
Good morning! Finally started reading Colson Whitehead’s Harlem Shuffle. Love his writing style.
LOL, das Vertrauen in die AI-Begeisterung der Leser scheint wirklich nicht sehr groß zu sein
Kurzer Einwurf, weiß irgendjemand wie man das hier abstellt - diese language Popups treiben mich in den Wahnsinn.
Have you read Suzanne Cope‘s Power Hungry? I’m only 50 pages in but like it a lot so far.
You already named Setsuko Hara, so my next four actresses would be Sophia Loren (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) Angela Bassett (Strange Days) Marilyn Monroe (How to Marry a Millionaire) Miyoshi Umeki (Sayonara)
She also describes the house as something out of a Grimm's fairy tale, so maybe the German landlady being a bit creepy comes with the property. (She also doesn't call her 'nice‘.)
Best trip of my life. And yes, when I arrived in Kanazawa I had to buy snow boots 😅 but it is all so incredibly beautiful.
