The Bank Holiday weekend got away from me; there was teaching on Satuday and finishing unpacking the wool I abandoned to go to the pub. Sunday I mainly felt unwell; Monday I went to A&E for a chest x-ray on the advice of 111 because I fell off my bike two weeks ago and my ribs are bruised. I can recommend going early, before the DIY and barbecue injuries start piling in. Delighted to report that I don't have broken ribs. Actually, no. Once that suggestion was floated, I would have quite liked to justify the nuisance it had been and so everyone would say "Rosie, you're so brave, you didn't know you had broken ribs for a week, your chronic pain must be so bad it's ruined your pain tolerance," all of which is true, but harder to get people to say when you're just toting soft tissue damage.

Last year my resolution was "more television, less Youtube; more films, less television" which worked...kind of? I watched a lot more proper television at the start of the year and a lot of Hallmark Christmas movies from November onwards. This year I started watching a lot of movies but dropped off profoundly. This week I have rewatched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a film I consider to be frankly flawless, and started Small Prophets which I had been holding out on because I thought I would feel things. Detectorists is a television programme I feel so rawly that sometimes I can't look at it. (Aside from the Christmas special they did a few years ago which I do not care for.) I am halfway through Small Prophets and it is exquisite and yes has made me feel things about the value of small, gentle lives and Michael Palin generally but it is wonderful and I plan to have a bath and binge the last three episodes this afternoon.

I will inevitably not do this and instead will play video games while listening to a stream from 2020. It's important to know who you are.

Guess my zero tolerance for AI is hitting the Calm app. You can easily find images like this in photo libraries but instead they made this. Ironically did not make me calmer.

An AI generated image of yarn, haberdashery and some knitting. The scissors have the wrong big handle. The “knitting” is sort of crochet and also has stitches on two sides of a square and they’re really weird and loose. The yarn doesn’t make sense.
