For us, this has meant that queering anarchism means complexifying it. Many of
the criticisms we have gotten from (a rather loud minority of) comrades regarding
queering our political project are focused around class struggle being THE instru-
ment to bring about radical social change. Under this economistic (and, in our
opinion, more Marxist than anarchist) view, the struggle between workers and
bosses and the replacement of capitalism with socialism will somehow magically
bring about an end to environmental destruction and patriarchy. It will likewise
end confining notions of gender or ‘sexual identity’ and hierarchies made out of
those notions. As well, libertarian socialism will somehow ensure that ‘disabled’
people will be treated as if they are every bit a worthwhile human being as the ‘able-
bodied’ and it will end racism and white supremacy.2

Heading up to Edinburgh for the critical suicide studies workshop tomorrow and tues with @d-liveability.bsky.social and co. Organising travel around mine and the dog’s various phobias and other anxiety disorders takes a good four days on either side of the actual event.

Specifically i think im struggling with the implications of it, as someone v much tied up in & reliant on services operating on a mental health / prevention model. Like - yes, I agree with the below. Now what? Where do we start?

Through this recognition, a structural – perhaps sociological – approach to suicide prevention is repositioned, not as an accompaniment to the mental health model, but as a necessary condition for moving past suicide postponement and facilitating the potential for prevention. In acknowledging this symbiotic relationship between the mental health model of, and the structural approach to, suicide prevention, we propose that a repositioning of the latter also necessitates a repositioning of the former. As such, seeing the structural approach to suicide prevention as necessary for the success of the mental health model, requires also recognising that the mental health model cannot be successful without structural transformation. The cruel optimism of the mental health model of suicide prevention therefore, is that it dupes us into thinking that one is possible without the other.

What Is Autism?
Autism is not a disease, and therefore, it cannot be “cured.” ASD does, however, affect every individual differently. Autism affects one out of every 100 people, and there are approximately 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK.

With effective treatments and therapies, people on the autism spectrum can receive meaningful assistance and successfully integrate the disorder into their daily lives.

We may also find ourselves engaging in ‘safety seeking behaviours’. These are usually
short-term solutions which artificially reduce anxiety and continue to maintain the
problem and can lead to continued avoidance.
These behaviours also mean that we do not give ourselves an opportunity to see we
would be able to cope without them.
Some safety seeking behaviours include: Carrying a water bottle, a paper bag,
medication, taking someone with you, having headphones on listening to music all the
time.
Some people have been told to carry a paper bag or when feeling anxious concentrate on breathing, this is not helpful when learning to overcome panic.
