R. T. Jenkins
@rtjenkinsauthor
He/him. Writer of (mostly grimdark) fantasy, horror, and science fiction. Clinical psych Ph.D. by day. I don't respond to most DMs (nothing personal). Cheerful nihilism (though less of that first part lately). There will also be pets.
I try to get into the habit of sharing the moments that I fall behind on a goal to catch back up to show that it's not just about being consistent but also sometimes its just about figuring out how to bounce back rather than throw up your hands. I will fall behind goals again, and I will catch up.
#CartAugust 2: I talk about the world of Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), but it is really the continent of Karnassia, mostly settled by colonists that have lost contact with their other continents on the planet Andos (here is an even rougher map of all those places).
#Cartaugust 1: I'm R. T. Jenkins, and I am going to be using this month as a way to bully myself into actually sitting down and working on the maps for Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), mostly because a lot of what we have are very rough scans of massive paper maps (below).
I haven't been posting much this month, but I promise, I'm still at least writing in the background
This is a cat checkpoint; relinquish your most recent cat picture on your phone. 🐈 She’s loves this spot because it keeps the dog away
...As for the Vizrani, they have a complex, overcrowded bureaucracy of gods, with Vizra, god-emperor and founder of the Empire who is reincarnated into whoever the current Emperor is (thus completely fusing state and church [and making the Vizrani Inquisition an instrument of both]) as the head...
Yeah, I feel like I’ve been there before of opening the document and not having the sauce. For what’s it’s worth, I have a technique I use that @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social seemed to like (this screenshot is from 2021 which made me realize how long I’ve been at this lol)
#WritingCommunity There is probably a lesson about what my writing does this time of year, but there have been a lot of changes and the project cycle I've been on has been a bit all over the place, so I'll probably just restart this goal tomorrow and see what it winds up being?
#WritingCommunity Definitely slowing down a bit over the last two weeks, and while I am still consistently writing /something/ every day, I definitely can tell that the month of December is just going to be a slower one for writing related goals
Happy #Caturday, everyone! Got our fireplace going for the first time!
#DecemberWorldbuilders 7: So, you know those items on your worldbuilding list where you have a little note in your document to remind you to fill in stuff later? For Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), we are starting to work to fill in constellations and we have... one done...
#WritingCommunity It looks like, for whatever reason, I didn't do a chart for week 1, so here's the chart for week 2 writing goals AND a weird bonus chart for the month, because it occurred to me I can look at these data two different ways (for my goal of a consistent average of 1k words per day)
#WritingCommunity Week 5 for this round went well enough, wrapped up right on track. Likely to start this back up right away tomorrow, so stay tuned for another 35 days, I guess
#NovemberWorldbuilders 16: For Lake Whisper in Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), the Hrothian religion actually has a belief about the the lake, built around he idea that the lake was previously much larger and that much of the continent was initially under its water. In...
#WritingCommunity Week 3 was a bit rougher (as evidenced by lack of update), but Week 4 has been about getting back on track
#NovemberWorldbuilders 1: In Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), the color red (along with gold) is the color of the Vizrani Empire, associated with their nobility and the Imperial line and the predominant color of their flag. In the Kingdom of Valestra, red is a common dye...
#OctoberWorldbuilders 30: Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social) has a mindbogglingly large cast of characters spread across the continent, but the most unfortunate one I've created recently was Salum Androgo, an Avendral bureaucrat who works for the League of Karnassia. His...
#OctoberWorldbuilders 29: As far as Karnassia stories go (co-authored with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), I am currently drafting the third (out of four) in the Rise of Villainy series and am just over 18k, so probably going to keep working on that, if I had to guess! As for the November prompts...
#OctoberWorldbuilders 28: One thing that I feel like makes Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social) fairly unique is that it is a fantasy world that does not appear to have any magic, despite the presence of people who are referred to as "elves" (the various ral people and cultures).
#OctoberWolrdbuilers 27: A beta reader for the second stand alone, The Great Famine, said (to quote @dukeofnothingham.bsky.social fairly directly), "Wow, these societies suck!" And I think that would be the main takeaway of Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social).
#WritingCommunity Week 2 is going smoothly, feel like I've hit a consistent "slow and steady wins the race" strategy for this current WIP rather than my usual "bolt as quickly as possible on off days" which is a nice way to go about it
#OctoberWorldbuilders 26: In Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), a more defining accessory is the scarves and headscarves worn by Avendrals, a cultural relic from when they lived mostly among the sandstorms of the desert that persists even now that they mostly live in cities...
#OctoberWorldbuilders 23: For Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), since I spent most of #Septopolis talking about Vizrala, I'll discuss the vibes of Freeport instead, the other city where a large chunk of the stories take place. Freeport is the primary city and capital of the..
#WritingCommunity After about a month off, I am getting back to this. I have been working on slowly drafting the third book in the Rise of Villainy series (which I am also plotting out in #PlotTober) but there may be other WIPs I work on during this five week stretch
#OctoberWorldbuilders 19: So on the continent of Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social), indoor plumbing is just beginning to emerge in the more technologically advanced nations (Atmoriel and Freeport), but it is relatively new, and so the rippling impacts on overall sanitation...
I have a scene from the second stand alone (The Great Famine) that talks about how the humans in Hroth respond to an aid shipment of this kind of food, actually (and gives the Avendral/"cave elf" response to this sentiment!
#OctoberWorldbuilders 5: Talking more about the Avendrals of the Nation of Avenad in Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social) who are one of the two monothe-ish believers in Karnassia. Both they and the Atmorals "worship" or "revere" the concept of It, the "rules of the world" or...
