Headed into the kitchen for some large batch meal prep. First task is to make some dry rose harissa. The stuff is crazy-good. Below is my current spice blend. It's a twist on Ottolenghi's rose harissa paste.

The ePub also has: - A page w/links to favorites, another with links to recipes I'd like to try - Sundry info pages (herb info, conversion factors, helpful kitchen info, etc) I must admit that the ePub a small thing which makes me smile.
One of my favorite long-term, mini-projects has been to maintain an ePub of cooking recipes. The classic recipe card box in electronic form. Handy to track variations/changes/etc. Helpful when recipes (occasionally) disappear off the web.
Today's random post. This stainless steel fingernail file has become one of my favorite "small" kitchen tools. It's surprisingly handy for things like removing excess garlic from the press, or fiddly prep/cleanup. And since it's SS and doesn't have a plastic handle, it's dishwasher safe.
Cat MM is, to put it mildly, amusing. He loves to sleep belly-up, but in the winter months he wants/needs a bit of warmth. Two pillows, one deep pile blanket ... and this 19-year old cat goes into full tonic immobility. Makes me smile every time.
Tannus tire inserts in my e-bike are a grand thing. This ½" long wire shard was the rear tire.... and I didn't get a flat! It didn't get beyond the insert & the tire didn't lose any air pressure. Noticed it when checking the tires this afternoon. Could have been there for a few days. Whew!
2) Chocolate Espresso Mayan Cookies (from a now defunct website, but credit given on the following recipe card) Chocolate, coffee, cayenne and walnuts ...great combo.
Cat MM is in a mood this evening. I opened the balcony door to see if that would help. (Fingers crossed)
Fall is here, so time to add some extra lighting to my bike gear. 1st up: a blinking red on the back of my helmet. The full sized Lumos Firefly will have to do until the mini version shows up sometime next week.
This morning's kitchen task was to make a big batch of mirepoix, then portion it out/freeze. I add them to my rice cooker when making white rice. I.e., make a simple pilaf. A sneaky way to get more veggies into my diet.

Today's cook is homemade chicken noodle soup. The broth is done, meat off the bone. Everything in the fridge to cool. I'll prep/blanch the veggies later in the day. Pasta selection is TBD - I have fregola, farfalline, and angel hair in the pantry so will be one of those.
One of my favorite cooking hacks. Adding a block of frozen mirepoix into a rice cooker -- so I end up with a basic pilaf. An easy way to sneak more veggies into my diet. Interestingly, the rice cooks in the same time (~60 min for my machine).

Success!! I finally figured out a way where Cat MM "enjoys" a bike ride. The trick was putting him in a cat backpack with a fair chunk of it covered (helps him to feel secure). Didn't peep during today's ride. Each time I stopped to check on him, he was looking out thru his side windows. #BikeSky
HELP: I'm looking for a few good bike rack suggestions for a retail setup. Long story short, the local grocery's rack is old and starting to separate from the concrete. I talked w/the mgr; he's willing to consider installing a new one. He asked for ideas. Hence the shoutout. #BikeSky #CargoBikes
Step 1: Make garam masala. I just finished toasting the spices. Will be ground in the morning.
Last night's project: fix a pair of wool slippers. (I'm a repair, not replace kind-of-person.) Next time, I'll bury a patch of needlepoint canvas underneath the wool roving/felt before I work everything together. Needle felting hides the break, but doesn't have a lot of strength.

Yikes! I have four of these in my garage! They are in slightly rougher condition, but still in good shape. My mid 1990s thrift store purchase done good. Wow. Even if they are half of this listing. Wow.
Cat MM. His food allergies are getting the better of him. I hope he pulls thru.
Cat MM is having a (very) lazy Sunday morning sleep-in. He woke up one, only long enough to re-bury himself in his blanket. Other than that, the only sign of life is an occasional bout of snoring.
@vivaldi.com - are there known problems with emojis not displaying in Bluesky when using the MacOS Vivaldi browser? Everything is fine when using Bluesky in Chrome... so it must be a Vivaldi thing. I've tried searching the online help but haven't found anything. Tnx in advance. #Vivaldi
