From what I’ve gleaned this is a pretty straightforward adaptation of this book which is incredible. Reducing the story to grim dark in this blurb doesn’t do it justice. The visuals in this book are spectacular & I have been not psyched about the sepia tone thing the trailers have been graded with.

I read “The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil” this week with my 14 year old this week who enjoyed it and was dismayed that it was written 2005. He assumed it was contemporary satire.
