These Broken Little Worlds is here! @bethkesh.bsky.social goodness incoming... Gotta share some appreciation for #NewConPress -- I've had so many books with bashed corners from big retailers that a carefully wrapped hardback in perfect condition is a genuine surprise.
Looks like it's going to be a long night. Royal Mail's given me a 15 hour delivery window for this parcel.
Not sure this counts, but wore this out for the first time earlier (with scalp spray, etc, obv).
Social media boast post! Got my 90s nostalgia on last night with The High Life musical. Nothing mediocre about it. A perfect marriage of form and ip, would "oh dearie me" again.
Literally just spent several minutes examining the flowerhead of this echinacea plant trying to work out which bits are becoming petals and what happens to the other bits (this is nuts, I was never into plants as a kid).
Best of luck to everyone voting today. Don't let hate win. (Yes, I am smug postal voting fucker on a train by the sea right now.)
Housesitting in England for a few days. A walk by the River Brownie in Durham this afternoon.
Genuinely concerned I might miss this bloom while I'm away this weekend.
Finally got my copy of @cameronjohnston.bsky.social's First Mage On The Moon! Heretic chaos disability mages in space ftw! @angryrobotbooks.bsky.social
We're waiting on GSFWC alumna Amal El-Mohtar and Terri Windling at Waterstones Argyle Street. Come join us! @terriwindling.bsky.social @amalelmohtar.com
A lovely evening listening to Adrian Tchaikovsky talk to Nicholas Binge about Children of Strife and scaling up SF, the poetics of translation and more. I only wish we'd had another hour of it! @bingewriting.bsky.social @aptshadow.bsky.social @waterstonesargyle.bsky.social
Some good news for you: Today I start judging 2026's Ian Booth Award for Educational Altruism. We've had a big increase in entries of all kinds this year. In other words, more people are using their studies as an opportunity to help the community. The kids are alright. #HildBede @durham.ac.uk
Headed to #Sector7Books in #Glasgow today to check out the new SF/Fantasy/Horror bookshop. A growing collection of classics old and modern alongside candles, games and more. It's growing into a chill, cosy space, so lots of positive signs.
Spending Valentine's Day tucked up with my latest fling.
Times like these, it's a relief to hear there's still a place for authors and screenwriters that create from a place of joy and a sense of fun. Thanks to James Alistair Henry, Cameron Johnston and @waterstonesargyle.bsky.social for a grand evening! @jamesbluecat.bsky.social
Difficult decision of the day: choosing between two near identical journals for the year.
The 2020s continue to be a difficult decade, but we have love and art and good people in the world still. Health permitting, I'll be seeing in the bells at my computer, because I know where my heart still lies. See you on the other side.
Heads up about this Change.org petition going around. There's a part about supporting the current stance on reducing "illegal migration", so mind what you're agreeing to before you sign.
Christmas decorations up thanks to Rammstein Live In Paris, including the best tree I could manage with PhD final year brain.
A note to Event PR and Comms: When you send out maps with numbered attractions to local residents, it's a good idea to include a list of what those attractions are. Eg. I know some get excited by the number 69, but I doubt it means the same thing here as what they might expect. Wonderland indeed.
Never seen this classic so correcting it thanks to Alan and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra tonight. @realbigal.bsky.social
Here's another from a wonderful chat that has me excited to start this one.
Taking a wee break from final year panic to catch @clclark.bsky.social at Waterstones Argle ST (Taylor Driggers-McDowall and D hosting). @waterstonesargyle.bsky.social
Well, I may not be on Brighton, but at least I get to see Horror Legend (TM) Garth Marenghi tonight. @garthmarenghi.bsky.social
But my highlight was hearing Katacombs do her thing -- think Mazzy Star, Melissa auf der Maur, Emma Pollock -- Sweet Smoke curling across a room moments before you know if it's incense or the smell of your house burning down. Three cracking bands worth your time live. (2/2) @kingtuts.bsky.social
