Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Here is Kiki standing in front of a couple native plants I've added recently, Golden Alexanders (Zizia aurea) are flourishing in this shady spot. Kiki is on the lookout for chipmunks. 👀 I have problems yanking nonnative plants so I'm just adding natives in where I can right now. 🌱

I remember my mom reading me this book when I was pretty young. Raising the dead, sorcery, warlocks, doomsday countdown, even a hand of glory?? John Bellair's writing and Edward Gorey's art sparked a lifetime's interest in the occult in my little brain. 🥰

I recently reread this childhood treasure-- "From deep within the tomb came a sound. Boom! A deep hollow sound. The iron doors jolted, as if they had been struck a blow from inside. The chain rattled, and there was a clunk on the pavement. The padlock had fallen off..."

Of all the crummy weeds that hitch a ride with potted nursery plants, I think I got a good one! Ipomoea lacunosa, the whitestar, white morning-glory, or pitted morning-glory. A native morning glory, yay! ❤️ Host plant for a moth called Emmelina monodactyla (the T-moth or morning-glory plume moth) 🌱

Trees are mostly removed and garage is now tarped, somewhat unconvincingly to my eyes. Everything is wobbly and yesterday more roof debris fell in. I dread what will happen next time it storms.
For my friends who aren't on FB, yesterday I shared what last Thursday's violent storm did to our house. 2 trees blew down & smashed our garage, obliterated a ton of plants & crushed the hood of our Ford Transit. Insurance processes are in motion, we are lucky it wasn't worse but lawd what a mess.
Hey Bluesky gardeners! A fallen tree in yesterday's violent storms obliterated many of my plants and landscaping. 😢 If I prune all the broken swamp milkweed plants where the stems were snapped in half, will they regrow this season? 🌱🦋🐛
