Traffic in Port Moody is a challenge, but we aren't standing still. Since 2001, Metro Vancouver has grown by almost 50%, & Port Moody's geography means our roads carry commuters from our residents & neighbours. This term, some major projects have been advanced to tackle mobility. 🚶 🚴 🧑🦼 👨🦽 🛴 🚍️ 🚃 🚗

It's not political. It's operational. You may have seen a post claiming Port Moody "cancelled your right to speak" to Council. That's not true. Swipe to read the details. P.S. There are no meetings in August, so this alignment with the pre-election period only affected two July meetings.
When you live in a walkable neighbourhood Saturday morning wanderings look like coffee at Gallaghers with friends, treats from Casa del Pane, celebrating The Little Butcher’s 14th anniversary and popping into The Unmediocre Store for some necessities. It also is bumping into neighbours & chatting.
The nurses' strike isn't happening in a vacuum. It's a response to daily working conditions in healthcare: it's about patient ratios, patient safety, & working conditions. Sending patients out for an MRI directly relates to that. I recently wrote to the editor: buff.ly/N6Ta1ir /1
Recently, we’ve seen a surge in AI-generated materials. I personally do not think this helps democracy; AI-generated synthetic images, audio or videos can be misleading and have the potential to increase political polarization and contribute to declining trust in democracy. .../1
More details are emerging on the BC/Federal June 18th housing announcement. According to CBC (link below), the condo buy-outs will be for rent-to-own, purchased below the cost of construction, and focused on markets outside of Vancouver, with BC and Ottawa each contributing $150M, .../1

Did Port Moody really have "historic" tax increases over the last four years? I keep hearing that phrase, so I decided to look at the actual data: 20 years of my own property tax history alongside municipal tax rate increases going back to 2000. Here's what I found: /1
Last Thursday, I heard the news about the indefinite deferral of funding for the women's transition housing. We had no official word yet. My colleagues Cllrs Knowles, Lubik and Morrison, along with Mayor Lahti, have written about this on their own social media pages. I've been at a loss for words...

🌱 DYK: You can garden on your boulevard? Since 2024, the City says yes! I hadn't seen any new gardens in my neighbourhood, so Cllr Lubik & I planted one on Sunday. Not just a prettier street corner, but impromptu chats with a half-dozen neighbours, three donated plants, & a sense of connection.
The similarities between Port Moody's current Council Code of Conduct complaint process and the province's proposed model (Bill 17) demonstrate common ground (more details in the image): 1/...

Spring has very much arrived and with that, sunny & warm weather - the perfect day for the farmers market! As you may have seen, this week at Council it was decided, with the market’s support, to move the market to the Old Firehall site. This change will occur in the fall.
Well, we have winter. City plows are out but the snow is quickly accumulating - drive safely, take transit or stay home. #portmoody

Today, I remember the 14 women murdered on December 6, 1989, at École Polytechnique in Montréal. They were targeted because of their gender. I remember their names, their families, and the futures stolen from them by gender-based violence. #remembertheirnames #16Days
