"Then strike, man," said Granny, looking over his shoulder. "If your heart tells you, strike as hard as you dare.
The man raised his sword. Lightning speared down again and split a stone a few yards away, filling the air with smoke and the stink of burnt silicon.

"Missed," he said smugly, and Granny saw his muscles tense as he prepared to bring the sword down.
A look of extreme puzzlement crossed his face. He tilted his head sideways and opened his mouth, as if trying to come to terms with a new idea. His sword dropped from his hands and landed point downwards in the peat. Then he gave a sigh and folded up, very gently, collapsing in a heap at Granny's feet.
"Perhaps you weren't aware of what I was aiming at," she whispered. "Mother of the night, indeed!"
The soldier who had tried to restrain the man stared in horror at the bloody dagger in his hand, and backed away.

While it was too hot outside, I did a sneaky bit of remnant sewing with this 1.2 × 1.40m bit of viscose. Turned out nice again, as we say in the UK! #sewsky #YesIMadeIt #garmentsewing

Royal blue kaftan style tunic in semi-sheer fabric with a metallic pinstripe, plus black, scarlet and white peonies and vines, in a kimono print. It is edged with black satin bias trim and loosely fastened with a tie belt of black polyester chiffon. I used a sharp needle and a short 2 mm stitch length.

If you look at Italy on the satalite map, it's clear why large predators and humans come into conflict.

These orange and yellow roses have a light fragrance and the look of a coalport rose, with globe shaped petals on the inside franed by a neat ruff. They seem to have appreciated the hot weather, unlike myself🥵 Snapped early, before the strong sun gets up. #Bloomscrolling

Three orange rose blooms at different stages of blooming and fading. The young rose shows brilliant orange petals with a creamy reverse, while the older flowers in the background fade to sunset shades. The dark foliage background is setting them off rather nicely.

This lovely white asiatic lilly is sadly channeling Miss Havisham this morning. If you look closely at the centre of the bloom the culprit is lurking between the petals. I have been fighting a loosing battle with lilly beetle this year. #Bloomscrolling

Pure white asiatic lilly with rust coloured anthers, a greenish tinge and no spots. A cinnabar red lilly beetle is peeking out from deep within the flower, right of centre and the lacy leaves and holes in the petals show what damage these pests can do.
