Out at 4-3 in the QW with a very medium pool. Ate bad soup piles for breakfast then lost three in a row to WU creature decks. I really enjoy playing the QWs, wish they were limited every month!
hosted a random ass friday night DFT draft. Got there with 1-removal spell BR speed ft 5 great rares. Set is lowkey-maybe-highkey goated
Red is definitely the worst color in MSH, but my friend Justin may have cracked the code - Stark Industries Exec, a very unassuming red common, but one that reflects the when, how, and why to draft red.
This blurb from the pro tour article is riling me up. MSH is one of the least synergistic draft formats I've ever played. The defining feature of this format to me is that most of the intended synergies are eclipsed by strong on-rate cards.
I've warmed back up on Arena Directs a little - at the very least, they're good sealed practice. Boxed on my first try with this sick jund deck, probably quitting while I'm ahead!
Trophies from out two pods! W and U were definitely overrepresented, and the colors still did well, confirming the color balance issues. But the decks were definitely scrappier, and two green decks winning is 🔥
I've been having a lot of success with base-green multicolor decks in the second week of Marvel Superheroes, so this week is a deep dive into these powerful midrange green strategies.
My first MSH episode is all about flying - a brief history of the keyword in limited, and my thoughts on why I think flying is good in MSH despite not liking a lot of the individual flyers.
Finally, I looked at the cards that drafters could have played (cards in their colros), but didn't. Once again, small sample given we only have about 3/4 of the deck pics. But I picked out some of the cards that most consistently got sidelined
First up - trophies. The winner of draft 1 didn't provide a deck photo, so this was my best guess based on their pool and word of mouth. All white trophies! However, the first one is heavy UR with a white splash, and the other three are different white archetypes with relatively few shared cards.
Another new set, another monster preview episode! MSH has a very unique set structure, and leaves me with a lot of questions about how it's going to play out.
Wrapping up the SOS format with a look at what I liked, what I didn't like, what we learned, and a peek at my favorite cards.
Thanks for voting GUT into CubeCon! Can't wait to share it with more people :)
I got sick of complaining about the lack of high-level limited in my area, so I'm making it happen myself. Introducing the Chicago Draft League! Monthly competitive booster drafts in Chicago
GUT is up for CubeCon voting today! Of my two cubes this is the one that I really want to push for the main event, I'm really happy with the work I've put in and where it's at. cubecon.org/vote/6846492...
Grab bag episode! Taking a look at a smattering of cards and packages as we wrap up Secrets of Strixhaven.
My arena cube is up for voting for CubeCon submission! It was in the event last year and was a ton of fun to share with folks, hoping to run it back this year :) cubecon.org/vote
Do you ever have one of those drafts where it feels like nothing is open and every pack stinks? This episode goes into detail on a variety of aggresive-based strategies for maximizing undesirable cards, perfect for those types of drafts.
This week I'm welcoming on Rosemary of TheRosemaryTea to talk about an under-the-radar deck that she's been drafting a lot, "UG Small"!
My pfp turns 10 this year and I've been really thinking about a new one. This one would be good but it's pretty off-center
