The UK Government’s consultation paper on weddings law reform is to be broadly welcomed. It would provide much needed modernisation of the law to reflect the way people marry today See my new blog post: sandbergrlaw.substack.com/p/consultati... sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2026/07/16/c...
Delighted to receive from Waterstones a signed copy of the new novel from @chrischibnall.bsky.social - his first novel was exceptional so I’m very much looking forward to reading this!

It’s always great to receive a new book from Ian Ward but it’s even better when the book is in our Transforming Legal Histories series. This is a must read - it will transform how you think about legal history. Delighted to have it in the series! www.routledge.com/Law-History-...
Delighted to receive this excellent new book from my Cardiff law colleague and friend Professor Sharon Thompson. Given that the Government is currently consulting on reforming the law on the end of relationships, this is a timely must read! bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/the-road-to-... #FamilyLaw
Well, at least one Russell in Wales is currently writing #DoctorWho ! Sad that there will be no Christmas special but great to see plans for a new era. And co-editing the first academic handbook on Who continues to be a delight thanks to an awesome group of contributors!
The new Masters of the Universe movie has the power! This is great fun - exactly what a blockbuster should be! Loud, mad, confident and hilarious. Amazing fight scenes and all brightly lit. Glorious music pulsating throughout. Awesome references to the cartoon and previous film. I loved it!
My new blog post for @lawandreligionuk.bsky.social argues that new Government proposals to provide rights to cohabitants on separation will make a real difference in relation to unregistered religious marriages: lawandreligionuk.com/2026/06/08/c...
The Government has published a public consultation on reforming the laws on the end of relationships - but why would such reforms be crucial for those in unregistered marriages? My new blog post: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2026/06/05/g... sandbergrlaw.substack.com/p/government...
New edition of Doctor Who Magazine with a majestic image of a Dalek on the cover and a short article on Doctor Who and ‘the law’ inside; just after I’ve submitted my chapter on Law and Justice in Doctor Who for our new research handbook on Doctor Who!
Great to attend and present at the ‘Directions in Family Law Reform’ workshop today, arguing the need for inclusive marriage law reform that includes the recognition of ceremonies by independent celebrants.
What a joy to spend yesterday evening to experience the wit and passion of Russell T Davies speaking not only about his work (including an early Doctor Who monster appearance I hadn’t heard of) but the need for the arts.
Cardiff Law student Emily Stevenson is taking on a 13 mile trek in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) next month to raise funds for @alzheimerssoc.bsky.social Please donate if you can: www.justgiving.com/page/emily-s...
A number of Cardiff also students and graduates - including Betty (who is on the placement year), Ffion (a trainee) and Josh (a qualified solicitor) - were among the Hugh James employees who cycled 116 miles for Sight Life! Donations are welcome www.justgiving.com/page/sightli...
Breaking news: @alexdaviesjones.bsky.social - a Cardiff law graduate - has just resigned as a Minister. It was great how she appreciated the need for comprehensive wedding reform - I’m hoping that that will now not be further delayed or cancelled.
Delighted to receive the latest book in our Anthem Studies in Law Reform series, published by @anthempress.bsky.social anthempress.com/books/series...
Cardiff law student Aaron Slade completed 10 days of 5Ks and pledged that if he met his fundraising target then he would do ice bucket challenge with staff and students. He’s smashed his target and so the icing is today. Donations still welcome: fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/aarons-...
Great to attend the recording of Welsh comedy news panel show ‘What Just Happened?’, brilliantly hosted by @robinjmorgan.bsky.social with an awesome panel. The edited version (about 25% of it!) will be on Radio Wales tonight at 6.30 and then on BBCSounds - well worth a listen particularly!
This sounds dangerous. This is clearly not the role of any Government.
‘Law and Humanities’, which I edited with my Cardiff Law School colleague Professor Daniel Newman, is now out in paperback from @anthempress.bsky.social - designed as an introduction, each essay looks at a humanities field that interacts with law: anthempress.com/books/law-an...
For the background and discussion of the legal position of the Church in Wales (and Church of England) under the law on same sex marriage, see my earlier blog post: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2021/09/07/t...
They are pure Doctor Who - a strange planet, the Daleks and a plot to take over the universe! Hartnell is exceptional as is his wig! And great to see the debut of Nicholas Courtney playing a character that’s not a million miles away from the Brigadier!
A Good Friday treat! Two new old episodes of #DoctorWho - missing no more! What a delight to watch the two recently recovered episodes (together with the already existing episode 2). #DaleksMasterPlan
And then there were six! An honour to welcome Daniel Newman’s latest book to our Transforming Legal Histories book series - I can’t wait to receive my copy! What a delight to co-edit this series, amazed by the quality* and diversity of what we have published so far!
